This is reasonable because Marx is vastly more important than Hayek. You can't study any branch of the social sciences without engaging Marx in some capacity. Hayek is a secondary figure even in 20th century political/economic thought.

I did my undergrad at Oberlin College, the wokest of the woke, and during my senior year the main upper-level political theory seminar was on conservatism, with readings from Burke, Hayek, Oakeshott, de Maistre, Strauss, Scruton, and more.

Ofcourse, soviet socialist realism is the logical endpoint of this. Stalin's writers' union mandated that every novel serve the revolution and the KGB even confiscated Grossman's Life and Fate in 1961 (taking every carbon copy and the typewriter ribbons) and Bulgakov died with his masterpiece unpublished. Western academics chose this same logic voluntarily and still cannot explain why their students stopped reading.
