Meta Q3 2024 earnings: 19% revenue growth, price per ad mostly flat Meta noted repeatedly in the earnings call that much of its advertising revenue growth can be attributed to the investments it has made into the AI systems that rank content, automate campaign optimization, and target relevant users across Meta’s portfolio of ad placements. For this reason, I believe that investor skittishness to Meta’s planned capital expenditure increases within this arena (which excludes Reality Labs) is misguided. It’s clear that these investments are delivering real, immediate returns. And it should also be clear that these systems are table stakes for preventing the companies inhibited by “small platform syndrome” from growing into genuine competitors. I would argue that these investments are not only justified but imperative to maintain the company’s competitive position.

today I bought a new rubber duck. made an app out of it which opens chatgpt as a menubar app. So now I actually can talk to my rubber duck and it helps me to develop my games

@Thomasbcn You are missing that 0.5 has to be paid either way, with or without using Apple’s store. Monthly. And if you don’t accept the new terms I guess you can’t publish at all anymore… as always. This actually becomes unsustainable for 99% of apps.

@EDROXinc @zellah Are you sure? I always thought whenever something is referenced within the scene it will get loaded into memory at app start. I didn’t know that materials/textures are the exception here. If so should we prewarm them before needed?

@zellah In unity textures referenced by a material are typically loaded into memory when the material is rendered by a MeshRenderer. Unity's rendering system is designed to optimize resource usage, and it employs a mechanism called "on-demand loading" for assets like textures

Hi folks, Unity question. If you have a script(MonoBehaviour) referencing a material. Are the textures that the material is referencing loaded into memory at startup, or are they loaded into memory when the Material is actually rendered by a MeshRenderer?

@AaroArts That was the idea though. I am actually surprised they did as much. But now they still are in a bad position and most probably everyone will keep using Unity 2023 for the next 2-3 years while in the meantime godot is getting the needed lift. Then make the switch.
