Today, I had the pleasure of receiving Hon. @AmosLugoloobi, Uganda’s State Minister for Finance and Planning (@mofpedU) and APRM Focal Point. ​We discussed key priorities for Uganda’s two-year chairmanship of the @APRMorg. Our teams engaged in a productive session to align Uganda's vision with our strategic plan, ensuring our initiatives are perfectly synchronized. ​We look forward to this new chapter under Uganda’s leadership as we work together to address the bottlenecks hindering good governance across Africa. 🌍🇺🇬

The final preparations are in motion at the @_AfricanUnion Hq as we gear up for the #APRForum of Heads of State and Government to begin in just a few hours.

Today, Uganda assumes the Chairmanship of the African Peer Review Mechanism (APRM) Forum of Heads of State and Government (2026–2028) at the 39th African Union Summit in Addis Ababa. Context; The @APRMorg is Africa’s home-grown governance accountability instrument under the AU, established in 2003. It is a voluntary peer review system through which Member States assess each other’s performance in democracy, political governance, economic management, corporate governance, and socio-economic development. At the apex of this structure sits the APR Forum, composed of participating Heads of State and Government, providing political leadership, policy direction and oversight of governance reforms across the continent. What does Means for @aprm_ug? It places Uganda at the center of driving governance dialogue, peer learning and reform advocacy across APRM member states. For Uganda, it is both a diplomatic endorsement and a governance test an opportunity to lead by example while shaping Africa’s governance trajectory. The Road Ahead? Uganda’s chairmanship comes at a time when Africa is redefining governance within the context of Agenda 2063, economic integration under the AfCFTA and rising citizen expectations. The task is clear: strengthen the credibility of the APRM, accelerate implementation of review outcomes and champion African solutions for accountable, people-centered governance.
