The Toronto Police Association fundamentally opposes the Solicitor General’s plan for the OPP to take over some policing in Toronto. This includes traffic safety on our major arterial routes and Mounted and Marine functions at Ontario Place and along its waterfront. We believe this is a gross overreach which will develop a fragmented system, hurting both the city and our members. Our official position and specific requests are outlined in the attached correspondence.

HAPPENING NOW: The Ford government has called Bill 97 for its last hours of debate before a final vote. Its passage into law — as is expected, given the PC majority — will significantly diminish Ontario’s records-access system. That could now happen as soon as tomorrow.
