Schools with high FSM are far more likely to sit under that label in the new Ofsted framework, especially the Achievement section.
Daft thing is, it already has our attention. It always will.
Poverty requires attention. Hunger requires attention. Trauma requires attention.
A judgement that ignores all of that - and then penalises the people giving their lives to the cause?
That requires attention too.

@PaulGarvey4 As a teacher in mainstream for nearly 18 yrs and SEND INA for severely autistic, and other kids with all sorts if attachment disorders, I saw regularly how hard it was and why teachers and TAs are leaving. It's tragic, but burnout dealing with kids in mainstream is killing us.

@MartinSLewis When you buy fresh fruit and veg from the supermarket, always take it out of plastic wrapping before storing in the fridge. Supermarkets sell 'washed' fruit and veg knowing that once water is introduced it rots the produce faster. Always dry goods before storing them.

@PieCorbett I recall teaching in year 6. When assessing writing you could see the formulaic nature of childrens' writing. It was such a shame; they'd almost completely lost their creative voices. That applied across every genre of writing.

Primary writing on England is taught round applying grammar rather than composition and effect… children bung in grammar rather than creating an effect. It makes writing dull. A stronger link with reading helps and shared composition. Being writers.

There’s a lot of people (rightly) commenting on Ofsted & its unfairness, the unpleasant attitudes of some inspectors, the tone deaf response to Ruth’s death etc.

@SwailesRuth The language used to make these statements is adversarial from the outset. 'have only recently' implies that nothing was done. Why not say 'have begun to'. Re-wording could dramatically change perceptions and be far more supportive than punitive.

This phrase, which would put a school into the "needs attention" category, is causing huge alarm. In schools where leaders know things aren't quite right, they're reluctant to make any changes because they're "In the window" and unsure how recent a change needs to be to fit!

This man is no psychologist. He needs to read Albert Bandura's classic work, 'Self Efficacy' rather than pontificate on that he does not understand. A modern Gradgrind though would definitely be OBE too.

Ofsted visited 50 schools. Found a gap between decoding accuracy and reading fluency.
25%+ of pupils enter secondary below expected reading standards.
Despite having had secure phonics knowledge.
This isn't a decoding problem. It's a fluency problem.

Inspectors wanting to make tripod grip an A4I in a setting that works with 2-4 year olds. Anyone who knows anything about child development would realise how ridiculous and downright dangerous this is. Make it stop!

@warwickmansell @tes The anxiety this used to generate was immense. It has reduced with age but stuff like blanket marks because of general class disruption not directly attributed to my child causes real upset. Having had maybe 3 in 3 yrs in total she still asks me to check regularly.
