We have reached out to your ministries before but have not heard back. We have been in contact with fire chiefs in the Northern Fire Protection Program and they expressed they need and want our help and put the resource request in. We can deploy: 55+ WUI firefighters 3 airport fire trucks 1 Type 1 engine 3 Type 3 engines 5 Type 6 engines 3 tenders 1 SPU type 2 trailer Dozers, excavators, winch trucks, picker trucks, nodwells, and other heavy equipment. Our government won’t put a price on safety and I mean it when I say we will spare no expense to protect communities from wildfires. To the firefighters and emergency personnel on the ground, and to everyone who has been impacted by these fires, my message is simple: we will have your backs, no matter what.

⚠️Update on wildfires affecting northwestern Ontario⚠️: Late last night, we received a Request for Federal Assistance (RFA) from the Government of Ontario for air evacuation support in the northwestern region of the province.   The request from Ontario was precautionary in nature and I am in close contact with my provincial counterpart, Minister @JillDunlop1, to ensure that federal resources are rapidly mobilized to assist specific needs as the province continues to lead the wildfire response on the ground.    Federal resources are already supporting efforts on the ground. Four federally funded wildfire-fighting helicopters have been deployed to Ontario through the Canadian Interagency Forest Fire Centre (CIFFC), and Indigenous Services Canada (ISC) is actively assisting affected First Nation communities.   Conditions are changing quickly, and we expect further updates throughout the day. We will continue working closely with the Government of Ontario to provide the support needed to protect communities and keep Ontarians safe.

I can’t thank the incredible firefighting personnel in northern Ontario enough for their heroic work protecting people and communities impacted by the wildfires. The wildfire situation has escalated significantly over the last three weeks across the country, and particularly in Northwestern Ontario.  Thousands of people have been forced to evacuate their communities, not knowing if their homes will survive.     On behalf of Canadians, I want to thank the brave firefighters, first responders, Indigenous and local leaders who are working tirelessly to keep people safe.   Our government is in close contact with provincial, municipal, and Indigenous partners and stands ready to provide any additional support as needed.

Today, I met with federal Minister Eleanor Olszewski @EleanorO_MP. We discussed the need for better-coordinated emergency response and forest management in federal parks, including Jasper. We also spoke about increased defence investments and the importance of integrating Alberta-based infrastructure and services into those projects, as well as advancing major trade corridors and related initiatives.

Wildfires in Newfoundland and Labrador have rapidly worsened. Canadian Armed Forces members and Canadian Coast Guard teams are hard at work to deliver critical supplies and firefighting support, with further support arriving today to assist local first responders.   I just spoke with Premier Hogan about the escalating situation, and reiterated that the federal government stands ready to provide whatever additional support is needed. To all those affected; we are here for you and will take every measure necessary to keep Canadians safe.

As of 12:01 a.m. Sunday, August 10, all Crown land in New Brunswick will be closed due to extreme wildfire hazard and dry conditions. All industrial and recreational activities are prohibited on Crown land, private woodlots, and woods roads. We encourage private landowners to take the same precautions. Restrictions include: • No hiking, camping, fishing, or vehicle use in the woods • No use of wooded trail systems • Camping only in campgrounds (but consider postponing or canceling trips) A provincewide burn ban, including in provincial parks, remains in effect. I met American firefighters up north who came to help - and they had nothing but praise for Manitoba. To those in U.S. Congress trying to score points off our wildfire crisis: now’s not the time. People are grieving. Communities still at risk. Let’s focus on helping.
