The most overlooked amino acid that most people are deficient in:
L-Carnitine.
When it's low, your body can't properly use testosterone or burn fat for energy.
Even worse? If you're overweight, you're more likely to be deficient...
Here's how it works and how to get enough 👇
L-Carnitine is a molecule your body must have to transport fat into the mitochondria to burn it for energy.
When you don't have enough, you feel more tired and it's harder to lose fat.
You also have lower androgen receptor sensitivity and lower testosterone uptake into cells.
This means your body can't use the testosterone it has as well, potentially leading to:
- Low libido
- Low energy
- Poor recovery
- Sluggish workouts
- Difficulty building muscle
Even if your testosterone levels look fine.
When you're overweight, you have higher levels of fatty acids, inflammation, and insulin resistance.
These all of make your cells burn through carnitine faster while also blocking it from entering the mitochondria.
You can have "normal" levels but functionally be low on it.
You need more of it.
So how do you get more of it?
It's found mostly in red meat:
- Beef
- Lamb
- Bison
- Venison.
Vegans have the lowest carnitine levels of any group of people.
So eat more red meat but even if you eat meat, you don't necessarily have optimal L-Carnitine levels.
Your body absorbs about 5-15% of the L-Carnitine in your food.
This is where supplementation becomes useful:
- L-Carnitine (general use)
- Acetyl-L-Carnitine (best for brain & energy)
- L-Carnitine Tartrate (best for exercise recovery & androgen receptor density)

Best dosing is 2-4g per day.
Split your doses to improve its absorption.
Take it with food.
