Two years ago, a Canadian journalist contacted me, asking how I moved to the United States. As we spoke, he told me his father was born in the U.S.A. I immediately referred him to my immigration attorney so he could submit a claim for derived citizenship. I have read these laws extensively and know them like the back of my hand. A few years later, after retaining my attorney, his claim was successful and he is now a recognized natural-born U.S. citizen. He is moving to the U.S. immediately and plans for his wife to immigrate as a U.S. citizen’s immediate relative (IR-1). I have advised him on this question, too. I share this news in joyous exultation, for a good man has now claimed his birthright as an American and will invest his life and merits in this country. U.S. citizenship is the greatest civic honor in all of human civilization. To anyone who has it, as wrote Justice Hugo Black, it is “not only…a high privilege, [but also] a priceless treasure.” 🇺🇸

It seems that not a week goes by where there isn't a gross act of antisemitism at the University of Toronto. Here, a candidate for a student election at the @UofT Munk School is running on a pledge to detach "the school from its Zionist roots". Peter Munk was a Hungarian Jew who narrowly escaped the Holocaust with his life. With approximately 95% of Jews being Zionists, and Zionism being one of the main tenants of Judaism, this represents either thinly veiled antisemitism, or ignorance. The irony is that this candidate will probably win. That's how normalized antisemitism has become at the University, and that's how tolerant the University is of antisemitism. @munkschool @munkdebate

Differential sentencing based on race is unjust, illiberal, and a clear violation of the principle of equality of all before the law. Judges who do this undermine public confidence in their own authority, and more broadly in the criminal justice system.
