Id recommend reading Franco: A personal and political biography by Stanley Payne. It’s rather balanced in its perspective rather than pushing heavily into either side. Franco is a flawed figure, but if you are going to understand him, you need to understand the reality of the conditions that caused him to rise to power.

@ConceptualJames A lot of conservative Catholics know only the good of Franco, and a lot of secularists know only the bad. I have trouble finding a really neutral, balanced account. Any recommendations for me and @michaeljknowles ?

Why do you feel the need to pass judgment on things you don’t understand or know anything about? What do you know about Franco to make the assertion that he was Evil? Did you just read that on some left wing written book and felt the need to repeat it like a parrot? There is a lot I could tell you about Franco, he was not a perfect man, but he was far from “Evil”. What he was fighting was pure evil, communists and their liberal lapdogs who were brutally murdering the clergy, raping nuns and desecrating holy sites. Half of my family died in that war, it was a Pyrrhic victory, one that preserved my country for a few more decades preventing it from becoming yet another Soviet puppet. It ultimately failed, like many kings Franco failed at the crucial task of securing his succession. Now my country is run by a bunch of crypto communists that make American Democrats seem conservative in comparison and have literally desecrated the graves and history of my country. Franco tried to save his country, he didn’t want to be a dictator, he did not ask for it, but he was the only person that could when everything was collapsing, and without him, we would have been doomed to communism. Sadly most of the people who lived that war are now dead, most have forgotten the truth, I only know it because I’m old enough to have met living relatives who fought it, and to have lived under Franco.

I wonder who in American politics they consider Right wing if not Reagan. Nixon? The guy that buried the gold standard and gave us the EPA? Ike? He opposed McCarthy, did nothing to help Hungary when it was invaded by the soviets. If Reagan isn’t your president I’d like to hear who was.

I love how all of these people think alt-right, neonazi propaganda was commonplace in mainstream conservatism and that somehow we've suddenly gone "woke" if we oppose it.

@nosoup4knowles Yes, and no one liked it when he did, and a lot of people completely turned on Vivek for this also. I think people hoped he would have learned from that and not bring it up again. H1Bs are extremely unpopular with the base.

@RichardDawkins I don’t care what the issue may be, short of threats of violence, the Council does not have the “right” to walk out when their constituents are raising a problem. They are elected representatives that work for those people, it’s about time they acted like public servants.

It seems that in Bristol the “gender” trans lobby is so bereft of actual arguments that they sink to simply walking out of the Council meeting when faced with real arguments put by real women. How pathetic. thetimes.com/uk/politics/ar…

I’ve a lot of respect for chefs, I’ve frequented a lot of restaurants where the food is a product of their skill, and their continued ability to keep creating new and exciting dishes. I have seen amazing restaurants be undone by losing their chef. I’m this way I would say they are more like artists than tradesmen, though there is a bit of an artist on a good tradesman too.

Morality is what defines civilisation . We can speak of the Aztec civilisation all day, but can we say they were civilised? Often we mistake the markers of civilisation with technical achievements, writing, agriculture, animal husbandry, architecture… but to be civilised goes beyond that and into a moral realm that some modern cultures even today have not achieved. Was Ancient Greece more civilised than todays Afghanistan? One could easily make that argument.

The necessity of morality is not debatable. Moral principles and standards are necessary for civilisation.

There is an entire industry born out of the aftermath of the deliberate destruction of gender relations by left wing ideology, primarily what today is called feminism, that mirrors the worst aspects of feminist ideology. This has been brewing in the underground for decades, called Men Go Their Own Way, Men’s Rights, “Red Pill” and more recently other grievance movements like incels. The more virulent and disgusting side of this is the so called pick up artists side of this sub groups, men who aimed to use psychological trickery to manipulate women, this started a long time ago, in the dark corners of the internet. Eventually this evolved into the likes of Andrew Tate. Those communities seem to hate women more out of changes brought on by the sexual Revolution than strictly political issues, though those are tied to it. Propaganda is what is causing all of this, and it’s not limited to the likes of Andrew Tate. Surveys done in the UK for example, where propaganda has been particularly ridiculous, show people overestimate the number of black people who live in the UK by orders of magnitude, this is because of their over representation on advertisements. There is an interesting phenomenon in that arena also: interracial couples which are almost always a black man with a white woman and almost never the other way around. In reality mixed race couples are quite rare, but in ads they are ubiquitous. To a white supremacist that would paint women as race traitors. There is a lot more I could say on this topic, but the key takeaway is we should not underestimate the power of propaganda and the second and third order effects of it.

If white “racist realists” or “white supremacists” want to “save the white race” so much… why a large portion of them seem to hate women? Seems… counterproductive…

The number of times I’ve heard comments like this. “He’s actually really nice in person” about someone who behaves abhorrently on here… ugh. Guys, I know it can be hard, but you have to keep yourself in check. Your behaviour on social media is important.
Wilson Marsh@SpurgeonPiper

"I know he's a jerk/harsh on Twitter but he's quite kind in real life." I've been told this by former students of a professor who regularly writes snide, condescending, and outright false statements about other believers. And I've come to the conclusion that for many, social media isn't where they hide their true self, it's where their true self is revealed.
