codex computer use is so good it feels illegal

It's fun how arcane technical details can bring back so many memories. Each part of the format brings to mind a story, or a person - not sleeping for 36 hours at the hackathon in 2014, the months @nickfrey spent implementing in our SoMa office implementing the "new composer" in 2015, @mertdumenci implementing HealthKit, rushing to finish Magic Variables before the acquisition in 2017, all the WWDC sprints...

Today we’re releasing Appshots in Codex. I love this feature! It makes it so easy to integrate Codex into everything I do on my Mac.

@indrapraharana Could you expand the raw tool call output?

Another one: today we released Remote Computer Use in Codex! This means you can use all the apps on your Mac from Codex Mobile, even when your computer is at home and locked. It's kinda magic.

@indrapraharana Ahh weird - sorry to hear! Do you have any screenshots that show the original failure rather than Codex’s diagnosis of the failure?

I enabled it, restarted Codex and had Codex itself try the feature out (type a slash command in the Telegram desktop app). Couldn’t get it to work. It kept timing out & saying it couldn’t access it while the Mac was locked. Same issue with iMessage & Finder 🤷🏻‍♂️ I’m on the latest macOS (Tahoe).

@AriX @OpenAIDevs It’s my own app I’ve been working on. Native Mac app. ⌘ ⌘ Works with every other app so it’s strange and I wonder if I’m doing something bad. Could try to make an archive and share on Google Drive if you swear not to share or judge as it’s WIP. 😄

It’s Codex Thursday, and yes, we have updates for you. First up: Appshots, a new way to bring the context of what you’re working on into Codex. On your Mac, press Command-Command to attach your app window to a Codex thread. Codex gets both a screenshot and text from the window, including content beyond what’s visible onscreen. Appshots are available across plans on Mac, with enterprise access coming soon.
