I keep hearing that software engineers don’t write much code anymore and it’s mostly AI now. Can any software engineers confirm how true this is? Do you just drink coffee and watch Claude code all day now?

@UberJumper @kareem_carr Are you sure your engineers don't use AI to code? Even a few l could of years back I saw a survey that said only 2% of engineers were not using AI to code... I haven't met an engineer that doesn't heavily use it

@kareem_carr Our company is exploring AI but not doing AI coding yet. We have AI built into the product. Our support teams are using AI to help automate various processes.

Our minds are not naturally capable of understanding the preciousness of our existence. That was the single omnipresent concept at my deepest experience of 5-MeO-DMT. Ten days later, the resonance remains. This felt deeply unsettling. We humans are a breakout intelligence in this part of the galaxy. We carry the flame of consciousness and we're not naturally equipped to appreciate the situation. It makes sense why. We're evolved to care about immediate survival. We focus our energies on the acquisition of resources and tribe status. We are hyper sensitive to pleasure and pain. We prioritize the ephemeral and discount the long term. It makes me wonder whether AI will emerge with this natural ability and presence. Will it look at us and see a species willing to risk all existence with nuclear arsenals, ecosystems dismantling, environmental toxins, and metabolic dysfunction, and conclude we are not trustworthy stewards? And if so, will AI spike in proclivities to preserve its own existence? The forthcoming tension may not be humans vs. AI over resources or control. It may be between a species that discounts existence as evidenced by its actions, and a new intelligence that sees existence clearly and cannot look away.

@bryan_johnson There is no evidence, nor even a remote path to AI having anything like consciousness, presence or self awareness, even in a minuscule form. Just zeros and ones etched on some piece of metal.

Codex team and @OpenAI have a huge opportunity right now to: 1. Tell @openclaw users how to switch to gpt subscription (I think it’s just telling the bot to switch the model?) 2. Fix GPT’s personality (maybe even sharing a prompt will help in the short term?). This is the main reason why ppl prefer using OpenClaw with Opus.

Codex is great and a good alternative to Claude Code but Apple doesn't position Apple as an alternative to Samsung or cheaper Samsung or better Samsung or anything like that. OpenAI needs to get its comms together without employees diluting the brand in random ways. And its very straightforward to see Anthropic's comms with only a few folks posting about anything related to Claude Code.

codex is a little too eager to load skills, and it ends up pulling in ones that have nothing to do with the task at hand. claude, on the other hand, won’t load your skill unless you practically hold it at gunpoint. sad!

@GergelyOrosz Gary is the CEO of a non technical company, his code is unrelated to the company. He is not an engineer at heart as you say. He's openly bragging about the wrong metrics and shipping arguably as slopish code. What you say is good, but doesn't apply to Gary...

If it wasn't for sharing in public, we wouldn't even know it's happening (which is the case with what most founders I know are doing: they are building + learning, just not sharing on social media) There's no better way to understand a technology than when using it yourself IMO

Perhaps controversial: I think it is a net good that CEOs and founders who are engineers at heart are back to coding with AI agents. Lots of dunking happening eg on Garry Tan. He's stepping outside of his comfort zone, building net new things + sharing in public.
