Because Matatu operators are the ones who have called off the strike, Kenyans MUST REFUSE to pay hiked fares. Since they are the ones in dialogue with the government, they should not pass on the cost of their dialogue to innocent, underpaid and overtaxed Kenyans!

Standard Chartered Kenya's parent company plans to cut over 15% of its back-office workforce, ~8kroles, by 2030 as it ramps up AI adoption across HR, risk and compliance functions. CEO Bill Winters says the bank is replacing “lower-value human capital” with financial and investment capital tied to automation and AI. (BBC/FT)

When we go back to Parliament after the current recess, I will propose a law to mandate only solar-powered electric motor vehicles/e-mobility for all government and public service vehicles. Ethiopia is already here. We must adapt and move away from petroleum, except where this is unavoidable. We also need a well functioning commuter train and public transport system for Nairobi to end the constant blackmail by private individuals operating as Matatu Owners we have allowed to monopolize public transport in Kenya.

Kenya’s government expects to collect KSh 6.3B in fuel VAT this cycle. Diesel: 4.5B, Petrol: 1.78B, and Kerosene: 40M. But every day this country shuts down, the government loses an estimated KSh 6.4B in non-payroll taxes. As such, yesterday’s shutdown alone likely wiped out the entire month’s fuel VAT collection. Add today and we are now at KSh 12.8B in lost revenue, more than double what fuel VAT was ever going to bring in. CS Mbadi and CS Wandayi need to immediately call on Parliament to scrap the 8% fuel VAT. Petrol drops to KSh 198.38, diesel to KSh 224.93, kerosene to KSh 141.46. It’s shocking to see government chasing KSh 6.3B while bleeding KSh 6.4B a day!

There is very little to no room to bring down fuel prices… Gava already borrowed and spent kes. 300 bn against future fuel levy. And VAT is already reduced to 8%. The expert has no room to deal. Unfortunately, the dangers of spending future taxes thru securitization will now come out clearly and painfully.

A small amount today can quietly grow into tomorrow’s school fees, one consistent step at a time. What feels small now can become meaningful support when education costs arrive.

I wish to express my solidarity with Kenyans who have to bear the burden of bad governance that has led to the paralysis of the transport sector today. While we acknowledge that the fuel crisis is a direct result of the war against Iran, every responsible government is taking steps to cushion their citizens from the high cost of living. As a first step, Parliament should convene immediately to ; ✅exempt all fuel products from VAT; ✅temporarily remove all fuel levies to stabilise the fuel prices: ✅redirect more resources being squandered through budgeted corruption to alleviate the energy crisis. Let us join hands to liberate this country @UGMParty @Maraga27 #ukombozi
