Now with improved maths: Put $1,000 into stock (1.0000 share). Assume a 36% unrealized gains tax, charged on Jan 1 snapshots, paid in cash → forced selling. Year 0: • End price: $2,000 Year 1 (Jan 1: $2,000) • Shares: 1.0000 • Unrealized gain vs $1,000: (2000−1000)×1.0000 = +$1,000 • Tax: 36% = $360 • Sell to pay: 360/2000 = 0.1800 shares • Shares left: 0.8200 • End price: $800 → value $656 Year 2 (Jan 1: $800) • Shares: 0.8200 • Unrealized gain vs last Jan 1 ($2,000): (800−2000)×0.8200 = −$984 • Tax: $0 • End price: $1,200 → value $984 Year 3 (Jan 1: $1,200) • Shares: 0.8200 • Unrealized gain vs last Jan 1 ($800): (1200−800)×0.8200 = +$328 • Tax: 36% = $118.08 • Sell to pay: 118.08/1200 = 0.0984 shares • Shares left: 0.7216 • End price: $1,000 → value $721.60 Year 4 (Jan 1: $1,000) • Shares: 0.7216 • End price: $1,000 → value $721.60 MFW stock ends at $1,000 (0% vs start) MFW I still paid $478.08 tax MFW forced selling left me with $721.60

Be me, Dutch investor Netherlands approved 36% unrealized gains tax WTF does that even mean Put $1,000 into stocks Year 1: • Stock goes to $2,000 • Government: "you made $1,000, pay $360 cash tax" • MFW I didn't sell anything • Forced to sell shares to pay • Everyone else forced to sell too • Mass panic selling • Stock crashes to $800 • I have $440 left after paying tax Year 2: • Stock recovers to $1,200 • Government: "you made $400, pay $144" • Forced selling again • Price drops to $900 • I have $756 left Year 3: • Stock at $1,000 • Government: "you made $100, pay $36" • Smart money has fled Netherlands • I have $964 in stock • MFW I paid $540 in taxes • MFW stock is back where it started (0% gain) • MFW I only have $460 left • Lost 54% on a stock that broke even MFW the government made more money off my investment than I did Government: "Thanks for the $540! 😊"

🇪🇺 Telegram sent this message to all its users in France regarding Chat Control. People must know the names of those who try to steal their freedoms: Today, the European Union nearly banned your right to privacy. It was set to vote on a law that would force apps to scan every private message, turning everyone’s phone into a spying tool. France led the push for this authoritarian law. Both former and current Interior Ministers, Bruno Retailleau and Laurent Nuñez, supported it. Last March, they declared that police should see French citizens’ private messages. The Republicans and Macron’s Renaissance group voted for it. Such measures are supposed to “fight crime”, but their real target is regular people. It wouldn’t stop criminals — they could just use VPNs or special websites to hide. Officials’ and police messages wouldn’t be scanned either, since the law conveniently exempts them from surveillance. Only YOU — ordinary citizens — would face the danger of your private messages and photos being compromised. Today, we defended privacy: Germany’s sudden stand saved our rights. But freedoms are still threatened. While French leaders push for total access to private messages, the basic rights of French people — and all Europeans — remain in danger.

I think there is a confusion about strength training as if it's something you should like I hate going to the gym, I hate lifting very heavy weights, it's exhausting, obviously HEAVY, and I wanna quit and end it ASAP But that's the entire point, it's choosing to suffer on purpose a few times per week so the rest of your life feels like a breeze compared If you've lifted 100kg 5 sets 5 reps, you've lifted 2500kg, that's a lot When I ask people why they don't lift, the answer is always "it's not fun" Yes Padel is "fun" Gym isn't about fun, it's to stop guaranteed muscle atrophy and bone density loss that comes with age after you're age 30, it's to keep your brain and body healthy It's to make every problem in your life feel like a breeze compared to what you just did It shouldn't be fun nor is any pursuit in life that's worth fighting for, the payout is fun though but few will ever see it because they want everything to be "fun" You're not a child!

Anybody that went from forcing themselves to lift weights to really liking it and looking forward to it? How?

@jonathandenoo Custom scripts will get easier to make/maintain over time with AI coding. Platforms will have improvements as well but ultimately AI will be faster than any Plaform, without any of it's dependencies or limitations.

Startup Archive
Startup Archive@StartupArchive_·
Sam Altman: “This is probably the best time (maybe ever) to be starting your career” When asked how startup founders should handle a failed venture or pivot, Sam responds: “First of all, I think this is probably the best time — maybe ever — to be starting out your career because you will get to surf the greatest technological wave, maybe ever. And what that means is you can change course many times because you will have this unbelievable tailwind.” He advises founders to not get too hung up on any particular setback or failure — or even just changing your mind if you find something more exciting to go after: “I think this is going to be an unusual time in how much it rewards adaptability and decisive and quick movement. And I would trust that… And not get hung up on the fact that you decided to pivot or something didn’t work because you are just going to be flooded with opportunities for the next few years.” He concludes: “It’s still hard. It still always feels like a setback. But take the time you need to go on vacation, go for a hike, or just stew over it for a little while. But when you get back up, get back up with vigor.” Video source: @HarvardHBS (2024)

Richard Socher says your view on AI depends on what you think your job is for. If you optimize for output -- more stories, more illustrations, more healthy people -- AI is a gift. But if your role is about getting paid by the hour, AI feels like a threat.

@ludwigABAP I just subscribed to Windsurf, to work as a plug-in agent in PHPstorm. Now, Jetbrains announced Julie, which is their own agent. Not available in PHPstorm though. The market will compete for the best agent logic for coding. OpenAI, Claude, Grok, etc. will supply one. Devs win ✌️

So, I'm using our Mind Package and starter kit to build Agentic AI chatbots quickly in Laravel. I want great custom data, custom agentic AI logic. The package has out-of-the-box UI and monitoring. Add a professional AI bot to any Laravel project within a day's work. Cool?
