49ers, Girondins de Bordeaux, NFL draft

@BDPeacock This is a great bit. Could validate Stribling pick and also show that Lynch response at the media was off. The truth is NFL is a small world with same people switching teams around the league at different regime changes. So not surprised to see teams rankings being close.

Of course smart teams are aware of consensus boards. DeCosta doesn’t mention that some teams have UDFA grades on players that other teams take rd2. Also there are wild outliers within the consensus (kinda the point). Do players taken higher actually hit?

@richjmadrid_ Cant use injury for evaluation here especially for Bosa and Warner

This isn’t an objective metric, just listing guys who start but let’s go through them Purdy- quality above average starter Pearsall- jury still out Kittle - aging but elite and hurt Puni - regressed but probably bounces back McKivitz - we like him now? lol Bosa - 2nd ACL injury in NFL Mykel - ACL recovery Collins - meh Greenlaw - injury prone Warner - injury recovery Dmo - meh Green - meh Stout - above average Mustafa - lol Brown or segal (you mean Sigle?) - also LOL They have to start a lot of these guys because they have no one else who’s good enough you goof ball
@

49ers drafted players starting for them in 2026: Purdy Pearsal Kittle Puni McKivitz Bosa Mykel Collins Greenlaw Warner Dmo Green Stout Mustafa Brown or segal This doesn’t include players drafted by the team that play key back up roles. Process doesn’t seem broken #49ers

@CoachCrocky Yeah man. I understand the reach coz: - unique size speed profile - can develop into a X - position of need This pick much better than the RB in 3rd round IMO

Valid point by Simms saying 49ers are a heavy 21 personnel team and drafted Stribling to compete with Pearsall. I like it!
@

Chris Simms on the 49ers drafting De'Zhaun Stribling: “The NFL really valued this guy way higher than the public. He was going in the next 10 picks. I think in Kyle Shanahan and just talking to him a little over the weekend, I think they wanted to trade down from #33, but I think then they read the board and were like 'uh oh, he might not be here if we trade too far down. We gotta be careful. Let’s just take him now'.”

@richjmadrid_ The Stribling reach feels better than the RB in Rd3. At least Stribling was high on some boards and has physical tools that are pretty unique. How many prospects are 6’2, 210lbs and sub 4.40

The thing about Stribling is he’s probably going to be productive in the 49ers offense but probably wouldn’t be in most offenses depending on who would’ve picked him so who cares if you think it wasn’t a reach. I certainly don’t care what Dieter thinks.
@

@danielh47900383 @AndyKHLiu According to Bucky Brooks and Dieter stribling would have been gone shortly if the 49ers didn't take him. So it wasn't a reach.

@ScoutValentin Petit Reach ok mais des WR qui font 6’2 210lbs et qui courent le 40y sub 4.40 ca court pas les rues. Je comprends le reach. Et bien sur que c’est Kyle qui a fait le pick

@CoachCrocky Also reminds me the Deebo case. Was considered a reach at the time but a few trusted analyst (Eric Crocker for instance) really liked the pic. Feels similar with Stribling with @KP_Show and @FB_FilmAnalysis liking the player a lot

Was difficult watching De’Zhaun Stribling in the Ole Miss offense. Not a ton of diversity in their route tree. Went to 2024 Oklahoma St film. That’s a corner who’s worried about a receivers vertical speed. Impressive getting a corner to speed turn off a simple release

@CoachCrocky Actually Crock, how you compare Stribling as a prospect vs DK Metcalf that I remember you were high on in the pre draft process

@grantcohn I dont like 90% of your takes, I think they are clickbaits or rage baits for the most part. This was a great question and very good journalism. Thanks for asking this!

I asked John Lynch and Kyle Shanahan why they reach so much in the Draft every year.

@LombardiHimself 49ers have a great coaching staff, but Kyle saying he did not think about the previous mid rounds RB busts before picking Blake is not a great way to improve from past mistakes

And now you understand why I've repeated for years to not take mock drafts so seriously. They create a ridiculous disconnect from the reality of what's actually going on in the 49ers' building, where they have a track record of building strong rosters
@

Great quote from 49ers director of scouting and football ops Josh Williams on how SF's front office self-evaluates: “We assess it based on our board and our standards. We don’t really care as much about what the mocks say. Because the mocks don’t necessarily talk about the 4th-, 5th-, 6th-round players — the George Kittles, the Dre Greenlaws, those type of players that we valued in the building."

@SharpFootball Kyle also said he did not think about the previous 3rd rounds RB busts before selecting Blake. Not great way to learn about previous mistakes. But he is still a top3 coach, the drafting is frustrating though

we are going to have a deadly serious conversation about the 49ers and John Lynch in about an hour just pulling together some data get ready most 49ers fans realistically know they've drafted like garbage some national people think John Lynch is right to say he doesn't care about the consensus board this won't be pretty

@timkawakami Also can look at something in the middle. It is a valid point to question some draft choices and strategy while knowing that Kyle is the best coach for the 49ers and has had great results. We all go through these reviews in our companies

Lol, I think they were exactly something very similar last night. They also... err... have made it to 2 Super Bowls and went 12-5 last year. HOW DARE THEY! I DEMAND ANSWERS FOR THIS. You guys are... furious at all times. You should make the tackle then.
@

@timkawakami How about try holding them accountable and ask the tough Q. "You have a ten year history of significantly reaching for players above consensus with little success. You've done it again with Stribling and Black, why is this time different and have you learned from past mistakes?"

@FB_FilmAnalysis Very intrigued about Stribling now. I dont think the RB has any specific talent that warrants a day 2 pick, we could have beefed up the OL

I like the 49ers draft class so far other than another mid round RB. Though they did reach for a bit it’s not as much as public perception and it’s hard to trade down in this draft.

This is pretty funny: Bernard Arnault - France's most famous entrepreneur (who, funnily, I get confused with all the time as per my name) - says the Chinese government is friendlier to him with better business conditions for his companies in China than he gets in France. Which is, incidentally, having done business in both France and China, also very much my own experience. Hard to overstate how bureaucratic and unfriendly business conditions are in France. Macron these days keeps bashing China for crushing European businesses: maybe, just maybe, Europe is doing it to itself? Just a thought 🤷‍♂️ Always easier to blame others though... @BDPeacock Niners have bad track records of reach for sure. But we cant go around saying we need more speed and the value in this draft is through the first 100 picks and blame the process.

Thought he might be in play at 58, but def not this high. 49ers have been the most willing team in the league to go against consensus. The results in those cases has not been great.
@

#49ers select WR De’Zhaun Stribling at No. 33. He was ranked No. 91 on the consensus big board, making this a 58‑spot reach for SF.

@heathrose18 NFL scouts don’t look like me. % of black scouts is probably on par with head coach %. They bring in their buddies. Almost got brought in by an NFL team to be scouting assistant in 2021. Haven’t tried again since.
