This is Eagles OL Tyler Steen at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.
His grandfather, Sgt. Rodney M. Davis, jumped on a grenade in Vietnam to save five fellow Marines.
Davis was awarded the Medal of Honor.
This Memorial Day, his story deserves to be told. 🇺🇸

I first met Shane Barnes when he was a brand new platoon leader. We were on an STX together. Like many PLs as soon as Shane found out the path I had taken he was curious. Guys don’t come to the regiment to be on staff someday.
I told him what I told everyone else who asked. It better be about more than flying if you choose this route. Sure, the flying is incredible, but you better love the grind. You better love the mission and the customer more than life itself.
Shane did. He followed that path, and he was one of the best. I sat on my back patio for hours the night he was killed. Just stared into the night, and asked why.
The truth is I’ll never know. Shane was an incredible leader. He embodied the Nightstalker creed.
RIP my friend. We are all better for having walked alongside you.

Every year, I share this video of French caretakers who take sand from Omaha Beach in Normandy, and scrub them into the letters to give them the gold coloring.
They do this for all 9,386 US soldiers who died.

ABMC Commissioner Tucker delivered remarks at the Memorial Day Ceremony at North Africa American Cemetery and paid tribute to seven service members from the 515th Bomber Squadron, 376th Bomber Group (Heavy), U.S. Army Air Forces, memorialized on the Tablets of the Missing.
“They gave their lives, far from home, in answer to freedom’s call across the world. We are forever tied to their sacrifice and bound in common duty to remember them with gratitude,” said Tucker.
Nearly 3,000 American military dead are buried at North Africa American Cemetery, and over 3,700 Missing are memorialized by name on the Tablets of the Missing. Most of them lost their lives in military activities ranging from North Africa to the Persian Gulf.
