@artied Agreed, Trump is responding to events and has no strategy, no outcomes list, and no exit. What is the Turkish proverb?

What I don't see is the MSM pointing out that Trump is delaying things while US army/marine forces are moved into position for a boots on ground attack? Is that just me?

I'm completely out of my depth. I'm one of 3 people responsible for investment fund of £2bn. I got here by blagging, incompetence of my superiors, and good timing. I rely on advisors and repeating keywords I've heard from others. I need an exit strategy before I get found out

I don't believe everything that comes out of Moscow. And I sure as hell do not believe anything that @WSJ reports as leaked from the 'US national security officials'. Neither is credible and both are completely manipulative. End of fucking story.
The Wall Street Journal@WSJ

Exclusive: U.S. national-security officials said that Ukraine didn’t target Russian President Vladimir Putin or one of his residences in a recent drone strike, challenging Moscow’s assertion that Kyiv sought to kill the Russian leader on.wsj.com/3YPZ6Kb

@PeterMallouk Except, (1) you cannot invest in S&P500. You can instrument a proxy of S&P500 (a bit more successfully today; virtually with no success in 1995). (2) $19 you are touting requires a lot of rebalancing costs, trading risks, etc. You probably should correct for that.

Here’s what it eventually produced 👇 Maggie Oliver argued that police failure in the grooming-gang scandals stemmed from a culture of willful blindness, careerism, and fear of political consequences. Senior officers prioritised organisational reputation over protecting children, telling her, “Senior officers make decisions and you do as you’re told,” and repeatedly closing investigations to avoid controversy, especially around ethnicity. This, she said, left children to be abused “on an industrial scale.” Oliver described the grooming networks as a deliberate commercial enterprise: “You can sell a bag of heroin once… you can sell these children again and again. It’s a stream of income.” Apartments were used as hubs, and children were treated as renewable commodities, making it a stable illicit business model. The perpetrators intentionally targeted extremely vulnerable children, especially those in care. Oliver noted that in children’s homes staff “are not allowed to hug an 11-year-old child,” leaving them emotionally starved, lonely, and easy to manipulate. Predators exploited this need for affection and attention. She criticised national media for long treating the scandal as a “northern problem,” saying most outlets “turned away” until cases touched London. For Oliver, institutional denial—across policing, politics, and press—enabled systemic abuse to flourish.

I'm English. Been with my Irish girlfriend for a few months now. Her name is Saoirse. I call her cutesy nicknames, like Princess, or Anam Cara (Irish for "soulmate"). Because I'm still not 100% sure exactly how Saoirse is pronounced.

Facebook once bought a VPN app for $120M and turned it into a surveillance tool that spied on 33M+ users' entire phones for years. This app helped Zuck buy WhatsApp for a whopping $19B and break Snapchat's encryption. Thread

While some in the West are worried about the levels of taxation needed to fund ‘socialised medicine’ in the teeth of an ageing population, others make plain: the private grass might not be greener …

The average US family health insurance premium has increased from $6,000 in 2000 to over $25,000 in 2024. That’s a 297% increase, more than triple overall inflation. The biggest beneficiaries of this massive increase in costs: health insurance companies.
