Desperately sad news. Museums are treasure houses of objects and knowledge, founts of inspiration for future generations, places of wonder - and research. Places that invite us to see ourselves in a deep, wide context. Our society and culture is impoverished if we lose them. Having spent many hours behind the scenes in this one, poring over skeletal collections at National Museum Wales, working with archaeologists there, my heart is riven by this sad news. bbc.co.uk/news/articles/…

Stand by for the National Trust's Coleen Rooney moment. It's a Wagatha Christie-style discovery, but for scones, and it's big.

Just leaving a fantastic @nationaltrust Octavia Hill lecture, given by the inspiring @wmarybeard . There’s nothing like a thoughtful, provocative, disruptive, intellectually rigorous critical friend to challenge, congratulate, prick pomposity & embolden you. And she is and did.

Do you want to see four STONKINGLY good @nationaltrust posters? Well here they are anyway. David Gentleman, who’d only just recently designed the NT’s logo, is at his best here in this early ‘70s set. You just know they’d have turned heads; the beam engine prob surprised a lot of folk who thought NT was all stately piles and heathland. Now, if you want an original they’re about as rare as hen’s teeth but that clever sod @C20thPosters has managed to find one - which is what reminded me to post them all on Twitter anyway twentiethcenturyposters.com/collections/po… (btw you’ll know about a billion of David Gentleman’s designs, including the Concorde motif at Hatton Cross tube and the murals at Charing Cross tube.)
