I'll send an Apple Studio Display + $250 for guessing the exact number of layers used here. Be the closest without going over & win $250. Must be following. Multiple guesses not allowed. Detailed mocks in comments.

@_lhermann Here’s a good take on different types of employees. Task-level thinkers are easier and cheaper to hire, but they require a lot more hand-holding and full specs upfront. If you want to be more hands-off, you’ll need to get project/owner level thinkers. goodreads.com/quotes/1228843…

People told me having employees is hard. I shrugged them off. But man is it hard. 😓 I only have two contractors and all I want is that they do the task just like it is in my mind. But I'm starting to suspect they, in fact, can't read my mind. I think I'm becoming a manager 😥.

the more i think about it, the more i'm convinced there's absolutely no way this is Elon's first time through this sim... there's no fucking way the amount of context switching that man does—22 jobs, 12 kids, runs 6 companies and 1.5 countries, is sending us to Mars and is casually #1 in the world at Diablo it doesn't matter the industry, Elon has likely touched it and helped shape it in some capacity online payments, brains, solar, high-speed travel and infrastructure, electric cars, space exploration, video games, robotics and engineering, worldwide connectivity, artificial intelligence, politics, you name it he's 1 person who isn't even 55 yo yet and you're telling me on his very first try he just plows through EVERY domain seamlessly without a single *real* failure nah, i imagine he's done this several times which is why he's so good at it now—he blew by all the BS in his early days bc he'd been there before and knew his way through this has to be the furthest he's ever gotten us... WHAT OTHER EXPLANATION IS THERE 👽🦾

I would avoid having more than 10k files in a single folder, if possible. If you ever, for whatever reason need to list all files in that folder - you’ll be hit by long response times. Especially a problem when doing backups. Put thousands or tens of thousands into their own folders, like: - 000/001 - 000/002 - … - 003/001

What's this algorithm called? I store objects in an S3 bucket with sequential numeric filenames: - bucket/ - 0000000001 - 0000000002 ... - 0000004242 Each new object gets an incremented sequence number. I need a way to find the last inserted object, i.e., the object with the highest number. Since S3 can't fetch the last inserted item directly or use reverse-sorted listing, I need to find the latest object without scanning the entire bucket of thousands of items. My idea: I search for objects at exponential intervals (1000th, 10k, 50k, 100k) in parallel. When I find a gap (e.g., 100k missing but 50k exists), I binary search that range (60k, 75k, 90k) until I narrow it to a manageable gap (5-10k objects). Then I use S3's list API to fetch objects from that point. While I feel happy about coming up with this, I am curious to know what this kind of search is called. It looks close to binary search, but with an unknown upper bound.

@jandreini1 @Figure Why not just sell that BTC for 500K, and just buy the property outright full cash, with no commitments or risk.

One of my portfolio companies, @Figure is considering loans backed by Bitcoin. You put up $500K in BTC as collateral, and they lend you $500K to buy a $500K property. No money down. Thoughts?

@thelarrybarker Be sure not to append any computed attributes that depend on relationships. If left unchecked, that can cascade into lots of performance issues and massive JSON payloads

just felt the need to actually test a migration—like literally write a test for an “add_slug_columns.php” migration. anyone else ever had this need or something similar? specially because this migration will actually put data on this new column. 🤔

Haha, actually 20TB egress from AWS is about $1,843 😅 so imagine how much money Hetzner was losing and giving away for free for so many years. This is a good move for Hetzner as a business, and users will find alternative ways. And if, in the process, Hetzner loses customers who have been syphoning all their bandwidth for $5/month, then they’ll lose even less money! 😉

Quitting your job one month before Christmas. With two kids. Being the only provider. Sounds insane, right? Yet here I am, staring at my resignation letter. Because there's never a 'perfect' time to chase your dreams. There's always a bill, a holiday, a reason to wait. My kids' Christmas list is on my desk. Next to it, my corporate paycheck. Safe. Reliable. The 'responsible' choice. But what am I teaching them by staying trapped in 'someday' mode? 18 weeks ago I launched @affordihome - helping people find affordable homes in Europe (yes, actual Italian/Spanish apartments under 100k). Been running it on the side while that voice kept saying 'not yet, too risky.' Next week's my last at my job. Got 4 killer collabs lined up, and for the first time, I'm showing my kids what it looks like to bet on yourself. Terrified? Absolutely. Regrets? Zero. Because in 2025, I want to tell them a story about courage, not comfort. Sometimes the most responsible thing you can do is take the 'irresponsible' leap.
