NEW ARTICLE: Why Walking Feels Like Disobedience in India.
I did not set out to write about urban planning. I was thinking about walking.
Over the last few years, I have spent time in different cities across the world, often doing the simplest thing one can do in a place - stepping out without a destination. I began to notice how differently my body responded. In some cities, walking felt like rest. In others, like preparation for impact.
This article is an attempt to understand what that difference means. Not in terms of policy or infrastructure, but in terms of values. How a civilisation treats walking, I have come to believe, reveals how it treats the ordinary human being.
