Fantastic tasting menu @LakeRoadKitchen last night - particular highlights were the prawn congee, halibut with truffle and the pecan gelato. Some amazing wines too!
What a fabulous lunch @RootsYork today - great cookery and outstanding service. The combination of porchetta with the Batard and the Tignanello was off the scale. Hard to think of a better way to spend a Sunday tbh.
@MattChristmas1 Had this today! It doesn't bloody need a runny middle what with the sauce and parfait. The chocolate has the perfect balance between richness and sweetness, and it goes very well with a glass of Banyuls!
The CB hot chocolate pudding, the idea is that there is almost more praline parfait than pudding, some people think it’s crap because it doesn’t have a runny middle, others think it is perfect and request it on the rare occasion it’s off the menu, we are always ready to oblige.
@ChezBruce@MattChristmas1 The PYCM was surprisingly broad and rich - presumably due to the hot vintage - not so much of the smokey restraint they usually have. The Yarra Yering was youthful and primary but so fragrant, floral and aromatic. Beautiful with Matt's awesome duck dish.
Sublime cooking by @MattChristmas1@ChezBruce today - wow, that duck pie with the 'secret' foie gras inside may just be the best thing you've ever served!! The richness of the fishcake starter was just perfect with our White Burgundy. There is nowhere I'd rather eat.
@ChezBruce@MattChristmas1 I agree, I love their wines. Underhill is probably my favourite of the reds, but Dry 1 & 2 are great too. Mount Mary I love the Chard, only had Quintet once.
Wine selection for lunch @ChezBruce on Saturday. It seems like ages since I've been, though judging by recent photos @MattChristmas1 and the team haven't lost their touch! Cannot wait.
Excellent Sunday lunch @TheStaratHarome yesterday. Dessert & soup were the highlights, unbelievably good value at £60 for 4 courses + bits and pieces. Service top drawer, and great to see @chefmarkowens on the pass too!
We think this guy has completed Chez Bruce, Terrine, Mullet, pork, venison, rice pudding, tart, raviolo, duck, apple, in that order, all full size, we are hoping for a cheese to finish, going to make a wafeur thin mint as a petit four!
Highlights from last week: Hare Pie @SJRestaurant@Mr_St_JOHN and French onion & oxtail soup at WIMPS @LaTrompetteUk@Gregory_Wellman were the standout dishes, followed by a cracking afternoon at Twickenham. Sadly didn't have time to visit @ChezBruce this time!
@MattChristmas1 Ooooh, are they the brontosaurus sized sweetbreads I had last autumn, with ceps and truffle mash? Best dish I've ever had in your place, and that is high praise indeed!
