Under Secretary of War Elbridge Colby
It was a great privilege to visit India in recent days – my first visit as Under Secretary of War for Policy to a non-treaty ally. My visit only strengthened the conviction that there is deep alignment of interest between the United States and India. I come away with redoubled confidence that India is and will continue to be a strong and durable key partner for the United States. 1/16

Interesting analysis by my colleague, @shashwatkumar22, on how conflict in the Middle East may result in a resumption of India purchasing Russian oil — not by choice perhaps, but by necessity.

NEW Commentary: "Amid uncertainty, Russian crude oil flows to India might endure, not by choice, but by necessity" writes Fellow @shashwatkumar22. Read his piece here: csis.org/analysis/russi… #India #Iran #Russia #Oil

(Reuters) - Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, who turned the country into a powerful anti-U.S. force and extended its military influence across the Middle East while crushing repeated domestic unrest, was killed in Israeli, U.S. strikes, senior Israeli official told Reuters on Saturday.

Few words can describe how powerful this moment is. To see Menaka nominated to the Rajya Sabha, to see an out and proud Indian be in Parliament, is nothing short of a dream. Of course representation has its limits, of course this will not solve all the challenges the LGBTQ+ community faces overnight, but this is such a moment of pride. Menaka has been not only an inspiration but a mentor. I met her at Columbia University when I was a young gay boy still in the closet, when she was fighting for the rights of disappeared persons in the Northeast. I got to know her - and Arundhati - better after becoming a Rhodes Scholar, and then after my return to New Delhi. She has been relentless in her pursuit of constitutional values, remarkable in her poise in the face of vitriolic hate amidst the marriage equality debates in the Supreme Court, and diligent in the scholarly arguments she brings to her writing. The Rajya Sabha is fortunate to have her as one of its members. Kudos to Mamata Di for understanding the value she brings to the TMC. Here’s to brighter, more equal futures. My heart is so full ❤️

IFS is used by both Indian Forest Service and Indian Foreign Service, and their tussle over the abbreviation is quite amusing. In 2016, MEA wrote to DOPT that Indian Foreign Service was created in 1946, whereas Indian Forest Service came into being in 1966, so they should have the sole claim over IFS and Forest Service should instead use IFOS. In response, MoEFCC said that the very nomenclature Indian Foreign Service sounds unconvincing: how can a service be both 'Indian' and 'Foreign' at the same time? it appears incomplete and alien, and proposed that it be renamed "Indian Diplomatic Service (IDS)" or "Indian External Affairs Service (IEAS)." They further pointed that Imperial Forest Service (IFS) was established in 1866 and later revived as the Indian Forest Service in 1966, therefore, they have the earlier claim over IFS. Hilarious.
