Asaak's entry into the Mexican market amplifies Alex Ponton's (@ponton_alex) Independence Day message, which calls for African startups to adopt a global outlook. This expansion not only diversifies Asaak's operations and makes them the first Ugandan fintech to venture into Latin America, but also highlights the global applicability of solutions conceived in Africa. While Mexico and Uganda may differ significantly in GDP, they share some common challenges. One of them is that a majority of their populations are unbanked and subjected to high credit interest rates, as written by Daniela Dib (@dandiba) in her @restofworld article earlier today. (Article attached in the comment section) This expansion therefore serves as the much-needed case study for African startups, encouraging them to think beyond solving 'African problems.' This aligns with Alex's advice for African startuppers to think and go beyond geographical and socio-economic barriers in order to create globally relevant solutions.
