First President in modern American history to join a union picket line. That’s in no small part thanks to a modern surge in worker organizing and record public support of unions. Keep going ✊🏽

I receive a call from our receptionist, a parent has arrived and is very cross. I'm unsure, but I head down to greet her and welcome her to my office. She's really upset. She points the finger at school. It's all our fault and her heart is on her sleeve. This is hard. I offer her a seat. I sit next to her, not behind my desk, I listen and I see the opportunity. And then I agree with her. She's surprised. After talking to her friends the night before on Facebook, she didn't expect this. As we talk, things calm and we see that this is not the fault of anyone. We find common ground and agree on things. She even smiles and tells me that 'he's no angel either'. As she leaves, I let her know that I will find out more and then call her to talk again. She thanks me. I'm reminded that it's hard to know the best way when your child means so much to you.

Peer feedback is most effective when it is focused and comes with clear guidelines. A choice board, like this one below helps to provide students with a sense of agency. Make a copy to make it work for you! bit.ly/3XLdUIY #StudentLed #Feedback

The art of coaching by Steve Kerr👇 🗣️”The urge is, you’re the coach and you want to control it. But, coaching isn’t controlling it, it’s guiding it… It’s not going to happen by you saying ‘you have to do this or you have to do that.’ I try and communicate a vision and gently nudge guys along.”

#1minwalk2work THROWBACK! It’s July 1st and people across the country are walking into NEW LEADERSHIP positions. Few things to remember… 1. You don’t know everything. 2. The farther you get from the classroom the harder it is to make suggestions. 3. You’re not a search firm.

Affirmative action was never about admitting unqualified Black kids. It was always about ensuring qualified Black kids could also get accepted despite a world of systemic racism. The “unqualified admission” you’re thinking of are legacy students—like how Kavanaugh got into Yale.

It’s been exactly a year since that kind woman called to tell us about Jack’s accident & stay with him until paramedics arrived. Our lives would have been so different if he was not able to recover. Please make sure your loved ones wear helmets. It saved Jack’s life in this case.

“History repeats sometimes without rhyming. “Race neutral” is the new “separate but equal.””

Court-“Twenty years have passed since Grutter, with no end to race- based college admissions in sight.” “In actuality, 20 years have passed, with no end to racial inequity in sight.”

In banning affirmative action, the Supreme Court has *not* banned using race in college admissions. "Race neutral" is a legal fantasy, the latest to conserve racism. As Uma Jayakumar and I write @TheAtlantic, “race neutral” is the new “separate but equal.” theatlantic.com/ideas/archive/…

Our colleges are stronger when they are racially diverse. And America is stronger because we are tapping into our full range of talent. Today's Supreme Court decision is not the last word.
