The day the Affordable Care Act passed was one of my proudest moments as president, because it meant that millions of Americans would have access to health care, some for the first time. The ACA also prevented insurance companies from denying people with pre-existing conditions coverage, allowed young people under the age of 26 to remain on their parents’ plan, expanded Medicaid, and so much more. But the ACA was always meant to be a first step. We still have to do more to expand access and make health care more affordable for everyone.

15 Years of Regulatory Failure I have been suspended for four years and three months with no specific end date. The only proceeding actually being pursued by the regulators is the prosecution. They have failed to refer the substantive matter of my case to a tribunal as required under section 145D(1) of the Health Practitioner Regulation National Law, denying me my fundamental right to be heard. Without a proper hearing, I cannot bring my complaints against John Smith or the Westmead Toxicology Unit before an independent body and the matter simply remains unresolved. The regulators alone decide whether and when proceedings will happen. By refusing to act expeditiously and failing to refer my case to the tribunal, they have allowed my suspension to stretch on for years. How can the problem ever be addressed when I am denied a hearing? Without one, the matter is left untouched and unanswered. This is the heart of the problem with these regulators. The law requires matters to be dealt with expeditiously, yet it continues to be ignored. No legal precedent has successfully forced them to comply. I hope to be able to help fix this problem and set a precedent so that no other practitioner faces the same experience, denied a hearing and left at the mercy of regulators who refuse to follow the law.
