@DebadreeC One can still have a much higher overall quality of life in Switzerland on 3,000 francs compared to India with 40k, though it comes with the usual austerities: no eating out, suburban or village life, and probably a shared apartment.

@shobhitic Credit to whoever enforced this. Public life becomes ugly when people carry living-room habits into shared spaces. A society with some aesthetic standards is simply a nicer society.

The bearish case on software from AI is too simplistic. Open source already made software cheap. AI lowers the cost of building even further, but the real problem is maintenance, governance and trust. That is why open source thrives and commercial software still prints money.

@manujosephsan Strange to read a Manu Joseph column that says so little beyond the surface of the news. Usually the topic is only an excuse for a more general truth about the world. Here, it just stays a topic, a simple response to mediocre New York Times reporting.

The New York Times suggests its reporter has figured out who Bitcoin's mysterious creator, Satoshi Nakamoto is. But for a claim of this magnitude the circumstantial evidence is too thin. My column in the Mint.
Mint Premium@PremiumByMint

Is Adam Back truly Bitcoin's Satoshi Nakamoto? A NYT report suggests it, but Manu Joseph's analysis finds the claim weakens under scrutiny. livemint.com/opinion/online… #Livemint #Bitcoin #SatoshiNakamoto #AdamBack #BitcoinCreator #MintPremium @manujosephsan

If someone made a 37-minute talking video about why he loved living in Germany and why the narrative of decline was massively overblown, it would not get millions of views on this site.

Negativity travels faster than reality here, which is why this video is getting traction. But it is wildly exaggerated. Germany, in most places, remains one of the best countries in the world to raise a family. It has its problems, but this fashionable defeatism improves nothing.

@TweetsOfSumit @thilohuellmann I agree with you. I hope Germany eventually brings into the Overton window the idea of lowering income taxes and relying more on inheritance taxes. It would make capitalism easier to defend if society saw fewer rich people who were simply the beneficiaries of timing and bloodline

@aseembehl @thilohuellmann Ok. Let’s say it’s true. No one is talking about REPLACING income tax with wealth tax. Everyone is talking about adding wealth tax to the current system.

@TweetsOfSumit @thilohuellmann Inheritance tax is the fairest form of taxing income/wealth. If a state must tax income/wealth at all, the cleanest moment is when it changes hands, not while it is being built, risked, or managed.

@thilohuellmann Sure. Nice concept. Germany has the highest tax income in the world. Do you believe with more income, they will lower taxes for the rest? Or will the efficiency how they spend that cash continue to go down, thus, eat up the additional income. What’s more likely?

In my experience, Indian cities are often more expensive than European ones if you compare for the same quality of life. The illusion of cheapness survives only until you ask for cleanliness, order, space, and some basic civic dignity.

@shiri_shh I literally wrote my broker in Germany on 20 May 2025 to make Duolingo optionable so I could short it. Stock is down 83% since. Unfortunately, the German broker moved at the usual pace, far too late.

@rosstaylor90 Is it reasonable to assume that Mythos is a “larger” model?

From the Claude Mythos Preview system card. This reminds me of the GPT-3 sample efficiency graph: bigger models achieve lower perplexity with fewer training tokens. Now a modern version: bigger models achieve better accuracy with fewer inference tokens. (Note: lots of nuance about what “bigger” means there: expert size, sparsity etc!)

@kukreja_abhinav Government contracts are not usually where the margins are. Palantir is a good example, years of struggle as a government contractor, and only real traction once the commercial business started to scale.

Usually, when a company gets into a public kerfuffle with the dept of defense which leads to them losing a major military contract, thats a terrible thing for business. Not for anthropic though, who added like $11B in ARR in march alone. Wtf?
