Joseph Vijay administration must tread very carefully on the temple land issue! This news that the Tamil Nadu Government is releasing 1000s of acres of temple land to encroachers is emerging from multiple quarters, especially from @trramesh, a genuine activist who has done some stupendous work towards saving temples from government control. That said, I do not believe CM Vijay is stupid enough to execute something on the scale being alleged. If that were truly his intention, I believe it would have been done far more subtly. That is the key word "subtly". I also wonder whether there has been infiltration within the system with the intention of tarnishing the Vijay Government. Another question is whether CM Vijay should be held personally responsible for the inefficiency of the HR&CE Minister, @RameshOffcl. However, these allegations cannot simply be ignored because such actions could create several long-term problems, including: 1. Claims that non-temple lands in the vicinity are actually temple lands, leading to unnecessary disputes. 2. Loss of rental income, thereby affecting temple revenues. 3. Endless disputes over the ownership, extent and demarcation of temple lands. I also feel, since the Dravidian parties have made the system rotten, these matters may not be settled amicably for another 30–40 years, and frankly, this is not something the Government should be spending its energy on. The Government has far more pressing priorities, and ending corruption should remain at the top of that list. There is no doubt that, this temple land issue is an unnecessary controversy for the Vijay Government to get entangled in. Worse still, it could damage CM Vijay's image in Tamil Nadu which has one of the highest number of temples in India. Needless to say, I believe CM Vijay has otherwise provided a reasonably good government so far. If CM Vijay is politically astute, he can turn this criticism into an opportunity. He could use it to demonstrate that the HR&CE Department has become ineffective and consider dismantling it, handing temple administration back to the respective Aran Kavalars in accordance with established traditions. This is something I have been stressing from the beginning. At the very least, the Government should issue a clear policy stating that it will not interfere in temple administration unless there is evidence of financial fraud or criminal activity. Finally, I believe a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) could easily halt these developments. Knowing Mr Ramesh's track record, I would not be surprised if he goes to court. If that happens, the judiciary may well intervene before the situation becomes even more complicated. Before matters spiral out of control, it would be prudent for the Joseph Vijay administration to wake up and take precautionary steps on this highly sensitive issue. TEMPLE LANDS are not private lands. Encroachers are NOT owners. Temple lands are meant to serve ALL of us devotees , not 420 fellows who have illegally squatted there for generations. It is true there are some legitimate claims, but to label all 'Inam Lands" as private property is atrocious ! Inam lands can be cultivated, but never sold ! They can be passed on only to specified individuals, not to any person! The original purpose of the grant cannot be violated! Government DOES not have rights over Inam lands ! They have a duty to protect all citizens of Tamilnadu, not do these kind of stunts. If Inam lands are revoked/confiscated, they have to be redistributed to ALL tamilnadu families. Not those in illegal possession ! I am very worried with CM Vijay's strategy- in the guise of social justice, he is commiting grave injustice to entire population of TamilNadu. Without proper due diligence, he is giving away OUR land . First pay the temple staff and priests proper wages ! If Mr Joseph Vijay and Ms Jothi Mani want to give away land to their voters , please release wakf and church lands . Please redistribute the ill gotten properties of Gandhi Nehru wadra family . Find and confiscate lands bought by corrupt civil servants, government officers, legal and political bigwigs.

I won't waste time trying to educate those claiming that Inam lands are not temple lands. These Inam lands are intrinsically tied to the temples. Here's what the HR&CE Minister himself has to say. The 3,084-acre Karur temple land order is just the tip of the iceberg. The real issue involves a staggering 13 lakh acres of temple inam lands across Tamil Nadu. By applying the same order statewide, the TVK government can effectively release 13 lakh (1 3 million) acres from the HR&CE block to regularize occupants.This is the biggest disadvantage anyone could deal to our heritage. Handing over sacred, multi-crore endowments means temples could end up owning absolutely nothing in the near future.
