As promised, I am going to respond to the recent interest in arguments for rent control. But I just realized this article is from July 2025. Does anyone know why it's being passed around again?

@GarrettPetersen The post-game has you publishing more for another, tougher fight against the ETC to become Full Professor. Then you unlock the Politics skill tree in order to scheme your way to becoming Dean.

@GarrettPetersen My idea for a JRPG is you as an assistant professor. Instead of learning spells, you’re learning Research Methods & amassing a conference/experiment Budget, enabling you to craft Papers to battle against Peer Review. After 8 pubs, the final boss is the Elite Tenure Committee.

Idea: a JRPG where you're a mage who learns lame/bizarre spells. So instead of a fireball, you learn a spell for heating up pancakes. But then you realize you can throw a pancake at an enemy and then heat it up to 1000 degrees to do a fire attack.

@DesktopHero03 @Simberg_Space Imagine you’re quickly spinning a weight at the end of a rope. The weight is the earth, your hand is the sun. How much energy do you need to fling the weight away from you, versus how much do you need to fling it to hit your own hand?

@Simberg_Space I’m a computer engineer not an aerospace engineer, can someone explain why a slingshot maneuver towards the center of the solar system is more energy intensive than one launching away from the center? I’m guessing it has something to do with centrifugal force?

@NToTheIzzo @freakyteezy_ “Queen West” as an area/neighbourhood typically refers to the strip of Queen between University and Bathurst. Ossington is west of that, in an area called “West Queen West”.

@PMinervini Now you’re getting it. The important thing is understanding the underlying mechanism (which may be philosophically impossible), or how we deal with it legally (which will become necessary). Getting worked up on an arbitrary label is a waste of time. x.com/ashnavabi/stat…

A lot of talk recently about ChatGPT and the "Turing Test". But I'd like to introduce the "Audubon Assessment": Imagine a world before the Wright Brothers built their first airplane. There was a lot of excitement during this time, with many advances in flight technology.

@politicalmath AirTags and AirPods have been gigantic hardware successes in an era where people complain about a lack of physical innovation. How many other trillion-dollar CEOs have had this many successful product launches? x.com/ashnavabi/stat…

@PalmerLuckey A shortlist of Tim Cook’s successes at Apple: Major new products: -AirPods -Apple silicon -the Apple Watch -Apple+ -Apple card -AirTags -Vision Pro “Minor” improvements: -iPhone X facelift -iOS 6-26 -Mac OS 11-26 -Mac Pro redesign -Mac Neo He truly earned the title “Tim Apple.”

The biggest innovation under Tim Cook was the Apple Watch (and maybe the AirPods) Everything else was just incremental product improvements getting thinner and lighter. The Vision Pro has been a disaster.
