🏛️Bhojshala – Temple to Knowledge The marvel it must have been! Bhojshala's desecrated art and pillars are well known. Less known are these gems (photos in 🧵): 1⃣it has a 4-Act Sanskrit play inscribed on stone (= Parijatamanjari) 2⃣A partially surviving love story inscribed 3⃣Numerous inscriptions on stone (cut and reused as flooring); these suggest that the temple-school was built in 11th century, expanded thru 13th century 4⃣Inscriptions in Sanskrit and Prakrit languages 5⃣Illustrates beautiful calligraphy 6⃣Inscriptions invoke Saraswati plus other Hindu gods and goddesses, embed verses linking to the Vedas and Epics. Example: A verse reveres Krishna, then says "like Krishna, Arjuna; like Arjuna, Bhoja". It then praises Bhoja as Arjuna-like warrior with Arjuna-like conscience. 7⃣Etc
