@TricksterRad@Deploriot@LenahanJacob@FFmpeg I'd argue it's likely the manager of the account has the skill to create and simple thank you graphic with logos and text or a heart. It doesn't need to be fancy is my point.
This account deals with much more complicated video and image tech jargon so it's not out of reach.
Ampere has clarified that the 2021/22 server was sent to VideoLAN. That server benefited the wider free software multimedia ecosystem. Ampere has also agreed to donate a server to SPI for use in FFmpeg CI. We thank Ampere for helping resolve this.
@TricksterRad@Deploriot@LenahanJacob@FFmpeg I'm curious how you see it as disingenuous or bad faith? Bad faith against gfx? Do you prefer I never mentioned letters and originally say:
"After donating a server would you appreciate a simple thank you graphic or something generated by AI?".
@TricksterRad@Deploriot@LenahanJacob@FFmpeg And of course what the original point I'm making is: I want homegrown apples or imported apples. Just not synthetic apples.
I feels to me you're misunderstanding my original point and not arguing against what I'm conveying.
@TricksterRad@Deploriot@LenahanJacob@FFmpeg Then they said synthetic apples taste better than homegrown.
I countered everything homegrown is better I rather be served a bad homegrown salad over a synthetic apple.
I'm not saying replace apples with salad, just synthetic apples are so bad, a simple salad is better.
@TricksterRad@Deploriot@LenahanJacob@FFmpeg The point the user above was making is not "ffmpeg should hire artists". They're arguing "artists are so expensive and slow. AI is cheaper and faster".
I'm for hiring artists over AI but to counter their point I said human art isn't always expensive and slow.
@ashsii7@Deploriot@LenahanJacob@FFmpeg I'd like to point out that you literally replied to an argument about whether Ffmpeg could've commissioned art or not. You *actually* downplayed the skill required to make visual art, yes. Most people write every day. The amount of people (capable of) working w/ gfx is far less.
@TricksterRad@Deploriot@LenahanJacob@FFmpeg I mentioned a thank you letter as it's an easy way of saying thank you to explain why I think something simple would be more appreciated.
If you want to directly reference original post, then I suggested a simple graphic made in any image software like MS paint.
@TricksterRad@Deploriot@LenahanJacob@FFmpeg Are you saying I'm downplaying the work in visual art or the work in writing a letter?
I acknowledge we've strayed far from the original point, but I still stand by that something simple without AI will be more appreciated than an AI generated artwork.
@TricksterRad@Deploriot@LenahanJacob@FFmpeg Also wanted to add that letters can be art and it's disingenuous to say that aren't.
There are letters I've received that I cherish more than anything in the world, so I consider it personal art.
@TricksterRad@Deploriot@LenahanJacob@FFmpeg The question is not literal it's a "would you rather". But some charities do give out thank you letters from those who benefit.
I didn't call AI generated images art. I'm comparing a few minutes of human thought and effort to 10 seconds telling AI to make something.
@Deploriot@LenahanJacob@FFmpeg After donating would you appreciate a thank you letter written by hand or generated by AI?
You all about surface level style no substance
@Deploriot@LenahanJacob@FFmpeg or maybe they can just not attach anything at all?
Literally opening MS paint then putting the ffmpeg logo next to Ampere logo and drawing a heart would have more appreciation and thought than this.
