No, C became the default because it was, and is, awesome. We could have changed 50 times, but we didn't. I mean, everyone loves Modula-II, but when its time to write an operating system, you don't play around. You do it in C.
Lukáš Hozda@LukasHozda

Many people assign a mythical quality to C. It is the oldest language normies get to touch. They believe C is a pinnacle of language design and minimalism, which they inferred from historical success. In reality, C became the default for everything due to UNIX and portability.

I'd just like to interject for a moment. What you're refering to as React, is in fact, Next/React, or as I've recently taken to calling it, Next plus React. React is not an framework unto itself, but rather another free component of a fully functioning Next system made useful by the Next corelibs, shell utilities and vital system components comprising a full kernel as defined by Next.

RELEASE DAY After almost 10 years of hard work, tireless research, and a dive deep into the kernels of computer science, I finally realized a dream: running a high-level language on GPUs. And I'm giving it to the world! Bend compiles modern programming features, including: - Lambdas with full closure support - Unrestricted recursion and loops - Fast object allocations of all kinds - Folds, ADTs, continuations and much more To HVM2, a new runtime capable of spreading that workload across 1000's of cores, in a thread-safe, low-overhead fashion. As a result, we finally have a true high-level language that runs natively on GPUs! Here's a quick demo:
