@travis_robert I know this looks grim—and as as recent convert to the bus, I think a lot of NYCers are missing out. BUT the numbers on citibike use look great, particularly in the reduced fair / NYCHA category: nyc.streetsblog.org/2023/05/15/cit… So maybe that accounts for some lost bus riders?

@aspiringpeasant Mostly though we don't really have to talk about, because we did a lot a while ago (when the kids hit and we found out how hard this actually is) BUT it does come up at times of particularly constrained bandwidth or increased domestic workload eg. the holidays

@aspiringpeasant "Domestic labor equity" as a topic for discussion probably falls into the "goals" for us. Particularly as parents to two girls w/r/t what we're modeling for them and what they should expect out of their relationships in a decade or so.

This sounds like a miserable relationship to be in, keeping score on everything. Him vs. Her. Sounds exhausting and anathema to my viaions of what a healthy relationship looks like. This is not her "knowing her worth" - this is the financialization of everything.

Men only want to go 50/50 when it benefits them, I’ve said this over and over again. This woman in a 50/50 relationship calculated what having a child will cost her and wants her boyfriend to pay half. He says it’s fair but doesn’t want to because it’s to benefit her, not him.

@aspiringpeasant Getting to something equitable in a marriage is almost all downside for men. They'll need to do a lot more and pay attention to a lot more. I think a lot of wives are going to need to play hard ball to get there. At least for a generation or two.

@aspiringpeasant Similar to how my wife and I take this on, but a lot of men (maybe most (even otherwise progressive guys)) are going to have a hard time stepping up to something close to equality unless labor is very explicitly broken down for them.

Yes it’s on me for assuming “better” meant “objectively superior version of thing” and not marketing speak for “horrific substitution for the thing you can’t or won’t eat because of macros/eating disorder/honestly come by restriction”

I got some sort of franken-bagel called “Better Bagel” which I assumed was just a good frozen bagel but turns out to be styrofoam held together with whey protein isolate

@IDoTheThinking Strongly suggest you check out governor's island - the ferry terminal is just north of the staten island ferry. Leaves every 30 min.
