Hittite texts explicitly mention Greeks under the name Ahhiyawa (Ahhiyawa=Achaioi i.e. Myceneans) and they do not describe Greeks as cruel. Chivalry was pushed by the west in the Middle Ages to hide violent actions(overcompensate) due to the lack of other virtues and distorting the original Christian meaning.
