My heart is breaking -- Nick (@nickpopemod) passed away this afternoon at our home. The last few weeks of his life, even as he suffered, he managed to do a few interviews from home. I was so lucky to have met and to have married Nick. He was a wonderful husband. I loved him dearly.

If this report is true, it’s one of the most disturbing things we’ve learned about how Britain is being governed. A US military operation is planned. Britain — its closest ally for 80 years — is excluded. And inside the Cabinet, ministers reportedly argue that being seen as too close to America might harm Labour electorally. Just pause on that. Foreign policy… National security… The special relationship… Reduced to electoral calculations about voter blocs. That is not what British democracy was designed for. Governments are supposed to act in the national interest, not the party interest. If ministers are making security decisions based on how it plays in the polls, something has gone very badly wrong.
