The evening also features the literary introduction of "Victor and the Lost City", where David Gwiggner, the 13-year-old author of Ethiopian heritage, shares the inspiration behind the book and offers a brief reading that provides a glimpse into the story and its themes of history, identity, and discovery. @MFAEthiopia @ETEmbassyLDN @Landoforigins @lemnsissay

Saturday, we had the honor of hosting a special public lecture under the theme “Leading as a Woman: The Legacy of Maria Theresia.” We are deeply grateful to everyone who joined us for such a thoughtful and inspiring conversation on women’s leadership, history, and legacy. It was a privilege to welcome distinguished guests, Ambassadors, and many members of the diplomatic and academic community. A special thank you to Dr. Belete Bizuneh, Head of the Department of History and Archaeology at @AddisAbabaUnive, for delivering such an engaging lecture, and to the Austrian Embassy for their valued partnership and support. As we mark International Women’s Day, we are proud that this event brought together voices and stories that celebrate women’s leadership across cultures. Thank you all, Happy International Women's Day! #InternationalWomensDay #YZMuseum #Ethiopia #History #Austria #Education #CulturalExchange

The highlight of this week at YZ! We were delighted to welcome students from One Planet School to visit our newest exhibition, “Beyond 120 Years of Friendship: Maria Theresia, The Face of the Austrian Empress and the Grace of Ethiopian Women.” A special thank you to their art teacher, Mr. Tetemke Hailesilassie, for bringing his students to experience the exhibition with us. We always love seeing young minds engage with art, history, and culture at the museum! #YZMuseum #education #history #Ethiopia #culture

We are pleased to welcome and host fellows, organizers and participants of the UTA-Do African Cities Workshop. The visit in our museum included a short guided introduction covering the history of the museum, how it came into being, and its significance as a space that reflects public–private interaction, negotiation, and coexistence, as well as insights into how it operates as a private museum. We thank @TheUrbanCenter, a hosting institution for the UTA-Do African Cities Workshop 2026 in Addis Ababa, in partnership with the @UTADO_Africa organizing team and Politecnico diTorino @PoliTOnews, through the #Wagon2Africa TNE project. UTA-Do (Urban Theory Africa–Doing) is an annual, week-long critical urban studies workshop that brings together approximately 30 early-career academics, researchers, and artists. The program combines lectures, methods workshops, field engagements, and artistic interventions to collectively explore African cities through inclusive, practice-based approaches. #YZMuseum #utado #urbancenter #education #ethiopia #urbanstudies
