At @River we’ve been building towards Bitcoin-native banking for seven years and it’s starting to all come together!
We appreciate the enthusiasm and requests for more features. Check deposit and writing are something we are exploring. What else would you like to see us build?

Bitcoiners have waited years to ditch their bank. Now you finally can.

@jackmallers @Leishman y'all are leaders in the industry and I have faith you can eventually make Bitcoin taxes trivial to do like traditional brokerages and fintech companies have done for fiat.
English

@matt_w_forsythe @techdroider You are so full of shit. This is just an attempt to take away freedom disguised as "collective safety".
You're a bootlicker and a net negative contributor to civilization.
English

@techdroider Ownership matters, but our goal is balancing personal control with collective safety. Verification and Integrity APIs aren't meant to lock you out; they’re meant to ensure that 3 billion users—many of whom aren't power users—stay protected from large-scale fraud and malware.
English

This is my device, bought with my own money… just let me use it however I want.
I want to install APKs whenever I want, sideload apps, unlock the bootloader, root the device, and run whatever I choose. It’s my phone, I paid for it, and I take full responsibility for it.
If I make a mistake, that’s on me.
Stop forcing restrictions on everyone and treating users like they can’t decide for themselves.

At @River we custody almost $3B of assets on behalf of our clients. This is a responsibility we take extremely seriously.
We have a rule internally to "only do things that allow us to sleep at night". This means prioritizing security work over new things, and never building a feature that compromises security or soundness.

Whether you try to discourage something, or do nothing, or try to encourage it -- or seem to do these things -- each of these actions or non-actions sends a signal, often a much more powerful signal than the actual security of your effort warrants.
Think about locks on your door. Would they stop a skilled and determined robber? No. Do they stop most unwanted visitors? Yes. Most predators just want dinner, and they will choose the least risky prey they can find.
Since this debate mostly lies in the area of the mempool and relay policy, it mostly isn't about strong security, it's more about the locked-door kind of security, or even just about traffic signs that guide people to the proper place. A strong security solution would obviously be much better, but the alternative to a strong security solution is not to do nothing -- it is to fall back on other methods. Methods that may be weak but that send a signal. The fact that you can't stop a determined and skilled attacker in this case should not stop us from trying to stop most of the behavior that could harm node operators individually or the network collectively.

@aeonBTC @DoctorBuzz1 @NickSzabo4 Explain why, despite CSAM having already been on chain in BSV, when they changed op_return in 2019, it triggered a crisis. Can you explain this? You are thinking in technical terms; this is not a technical debate.
English

@jackmallers @Strike Appreciate everything you do Jack!
Any chance you could comment on any API integrations in the works for automating imports into tax software with this functionality?
English

@River Managing CSV files is highly prone to error and is a terrible customer experience. Most of your competitors offer API integrations to automate this functionality and they do it for cryptocurrency aside from Bitcoin as well.
For a Bitcoin focused company in 2025 this is lame.
English

@atxbtc We make it easy to export your data and then import it into whichever tax software you prefer. You can read more about how to do that here support.river.com/kb/guide/en/ho…
English

@River How come you don't support integration with any Bitcoin tax software?
Having to do taxes manually in 2025 is a huge pain.
English

@Nunyabuis21mill @River Yes but we’re thinking through ways to make it easier to keep track of cost basis for people who withdraw
English

One @River feature we don't talk about much is that you can change your tax lot selection methodology. For example you can opt to automatically sell or withdraw the highest cost tax lots first.

@Ledger You rug pulled all of your users when you added a back door to your devices.

It’s always heartbreaking to hear about someone getting scammed - especially when the person who scammed them was someone they had grown to trust.
Unfortunately that’s exactly what happened to Niki, who lost $390k worth of crypto after meeting someone online who spent a lot of time gaining her trust, before pulling the rug out from under her.
Listen to her story, and discover why it’s so vital to do your own research and have a full understanding of what you’re doing before diving into crypto investing.
And always remember, if it sounds too good to be true - it probably is!
