"Healthcare workers are heroes."
We don't want to be heroes.
We want electricity. Working equipment. Salary paid on time. We want a system that doesn't send us to die quietly in a call room.

@augsby Unfortunately the reality on ground is not going to change anytime soon.. personally I don’t care what happens back home because I’m not the government and I can’t save everyone, I can only save myself. We only live once.

Nigerian doctors earn ~₦3M/year.
Their counterparts in the UK earn the equivalent of ~₦50M.
Same training. Same sacrifice.
Different value placed on the same life.

There’s always one patient who talks to people nobody else can see. At 2am, with the lights low and the monitors beeping, you stop questioning whether they’re confused. You start wondering if they’re just…further along than you.

The nurses don’t cry at the bedside. They walk to the call room, stand in the dark for 90 seconds, then come back out smiling. I asked one about it. She said “you learn where to put it.” I still don’t know where that place is.

@isgeuduehjdh Migration is a consequence, not a solution. The question is what happens to healthcare access in countries that keep losing trained doctors.

@augsby The simple truth it’s because of the kind of economy they operate in. This is not only applicable to Nigeria it’s same in all underdeveloped and developing countries. If you want a better pay, go to developed countries

@kudospius We know the reasons. The question is why they haven’t been fixed.

@SxxxxxDxx Even if med school is fully funded, it doesn’t change the fact that doctors are still paid based on system value, not tuition history.

@iamayims That’s exactly the point…£40k is still considered ‘not enough’ there, yet here we’re discussing figures far below that level for similar responsibility.

@augsby Meanwhile, after spending roughly ~ N40million on schools fees ALONE to study medicine and about 3 times of the amount for upkeep and miscellaneous. Would a graduate from such school remain in Nigeria where it will take perhaps over a decade to earn back his school fees.

@isgeuduehjdh Higher fees don’t justify such a massive pay gap. The question is whether doctors here are paid enough to stay and function effectively.
