Early prototype for Gaussian Splats relighting. It's a baseline implementation that lets you harmonize lighting between the 3D scene and Gaussian Splat-based objects. More sophisticated relighting techniques, including self-shadowing and multiple light sources, are still a work in progress.

I’ve always hoped Meta Phoenix would rethink a few things. First, slim/light and comfortable aren’t the same. Weight and comfort aren’t linear, there’s a threshold. A “100g glasses-like” design that puts most of the load on the nose pads may look great, but it’s not necessarily more comfortable than a 200g headset. Second, we shouldn’t sacrifice the core experience just to chase a glasses form factor. Cutting FOV is way too expensive. Once the FOV shrinks, a lot of existing VR/MR content and ecosystems simply stop working, and you end up turning what could be a new immersive medium into a portable big screen. That’s not evolution, it’s regression. This is the part I most hope Meta will change. Just because it looks good doesn’t mean it feels good on your face, and that still doesn’t guarantee it’s actually useful. For headsets, optimizing for comfort is enough. There’s no need to chase ultra-thin, ultra-light at all costs. It’s just not worth the tradeoff.

@TheEggman64 That is not true at all, for example the Xreal One have a dedicated chip that basically just adds 3DOF, but it is basically an external screen. Same could be done for Switch

Have a crazy prediction that Nintendo will release a VR mod for Switch 2. Basically a unit with goggles, cameras and head-strap that the Switch 2 slots into. Nintendo would just make a bunch of experimental mini games and Pokemon AR stuff, and devs could port their Quest 3 games.

As the full FOV feed isn't available I paired it with some passthrough styling and faded edges and it looks quite trippy! Here is the same approach but as if we were looking though a #GameBoy camera
