Time for some FAQ 1. Is it "real" VR? Yes, the mod offers 2 options SimVR, and OpenXR -- both of them are full eye rendering with OpenXR being rendered PER eye (frame N to one eye, frame N+1 to the other eye), in this mode you cannot use DLSS or frame rendering video settings or you'll see shimmering on fast moving objects. In SimVR mode you are getting split rendering side by side with a special shader to handle depth (imagine your game screen but cut in half with one half to each eye + shader for depth), and you can use all the video settings you want on this including DLSS/TAA etc. and honestly it looks really good, arguably better than OpenXR from beta testing. 2. Will it be free? Yes. 3. Can this work for others games? Yes BUT not yet, I built an entire tooling system over the last few days to specifically handle Forza but generic enough to work on other games as well. Focus is on Forza Horizon 6. 4. Is this like Virtual Desktop? No, this launches through SteamVR as an actual full rendering on your HMD lenses, its not a screen you move around with your VR controller or position in front of you. 5. Is there head movement, 3/6 degrees of freedom? Not yet, I'm working on this right now.

For £7.99 Time Crisis on PS5 with Gyro controls is actually pretty epic and looks better than ever. I remapped the controls so L2 (Reload/Cover) and R2 (Fire) and it feels good. Is it better than a gun, no, but does it work and scratch the itch? Yes.

It’s a really cool tool! Especially on wide screen monitor setup, but this has absolutely nothing to do with vr at all. Watching yourself drive a car on a monitor versus being IN the car and driving couldn’t more different. Again, not taking away from how cool this is, but it’s seem like he’s just hijacked a viral vr post for clicks and it’s worked. Good job.

I'm not a VR purist and I welcome all these cool emerging uses of webcams to approximate HMD experiences. I might even hazard to say this is how we'll grow the VR community-- this could be a great gateway experience before someone decides to go full VR.
