The work of @LynSharratt has come in so many conversations that I have had with educators. Here is my recent chat with her apple.co/3Mg1a7j

Ginni Thomas exchanged 29 text messages with Mark Meadows in the lead up to January 6th, urging him to block Joe Biden’s victory. And her husband was the only member of SCOTUS to vote against sharing White House records with the @January6thCmte. We’re not moving on from this.

@13DroopyDog @YvetteT2021 @Teachers__Unite Perhaps you should spend time in a school? 1. Students get breaks; staff often do not: yard duty, emails, phoning parents, organising events, completing paperwork 2. 1200+ hrs lessons need 40 hrs prep??…The job is to adjust curriculum to meet the needs of students - who change.

@YvetteT2021 @Teachers__Unite Help me understand. 9-3 with 30 min in breaks and a 30 min lunch is 5 hours. Lesson plans change very little year over year so maybe 40 hours of prep which could be done over the summer. Marketing and clubs should fit in. What am I missing?

If educators ONLY worked their contracted hours and ONLY used school board provided materials, #onted would fall apart.

@karenvaites @bethhill2829 Who conducted research cited?Evidence of long term impact on students? What about students who can read before school? Those who don’t have pre-reading skills required? Rdg is complex-no single method works for everyone, or we’d not be trapped in this decades old debate.

@yankeebelle85 @DrBradJohnson Do you mean qualified in teaching methods and pedagogies, or qualified in a subject area? As a school leader of two decades at multiple schools and systems, I can say I’ve encountered many subject matter experts who do not have the skills to ensure students learn that subject.

@DrBradJohnson There is a problem in the politics of hiring that someone with an advanced degree, certification and endorsements cannot get past the interview stage because a school would rather repost a position than hire a qualified person from "outside."

The teacher shortages being reported around the country are staggering. If there has ever been a time for school boards, districts, and administrators to take care of teachers and staff, it is NOW. Remember, Morale reflects leadership.

If we really want to improve the behaviour of students in schools, we need to start with the behaviour of adults.

When we find an effect in edu RCTs, we usually overestimate the size of the effect. By quite a lot. We have some suggestions in here about how to mitigate this. But we’re now also working on a whole paper (with other smart people) about how to fix it… tandfonline.com/doi/full/10.10…

When an effective leader needs to see a teacher, they let them know why before hand, so they didn't worry why all day or all weekend. Sometimes its the little things that show the most respect!

If Thomas is correct, wouldn't the Supreme Court's 1967 decision in Loving v. Virginia also have to be reversed, barring him from marrying Ginni?

@skhafiz @OTO_LI @BrionyScott 2of2 - there just isn’t a fair system. Eg who exactly gets rewarded when y3 NAPLAN reading results are strong? And what will that mean for kids when the best teachers teach where they know the kids have had the best start at home 0-5yrs - to ensure they get that bonus?

@OTO_LI @BrionyScott Or you will find the generation next will always be attracted to professions which they know if they perform will reward them appropriately and differentiate. Please stop looking lense from unions who survey the existing workforce and think of future generations. World is changing

The good news is that if we needed evidence that the teaching profession (not sectors, not unions, not politicians - but the profession) must lead education, today's announcement of performance pay would be it. How will you measure my success if I teach 9P Maths? 1/2

@skhafiz @OTO_LI @BrionyScott If someone could come up with a fair, equitable way to reward teachers that does not also hurt kids/young people, most teachers would embrace it. We all accept that of course there are people in our (and every, just for the record) industry who perform poorly - but - 1of2
