@thdxr Now we spend more time on the hard work since AI takes care of the easier stuff that used to be 80% of our time and focus.

think back to projects you've worked on in the past it's hard not to imagine they'd have been completed way faster now that we have ai but everything still feels as slow and as difficult as ever

Golden handcuffs are the most expensive trap in the UK professional class. You take a £120K job. The salary feels life-changing for the first 6 months. Then the lifestyle catches up — the mortgage on the bigger house, the kids' private school fees, the car finance, the holiday cottage in Cornwall, the partner who's also stopped earning to look after the kids. The £120K, once a luxury, has become the minimum required to keep the life running. The job becomes impossible to leave because the entire structure of your life depends on it. You stop questioning whether you actually like it. You start measuring everything against the salary you'd be giving up. The lads who 'made it' in the City, in law, in tech management are the most trapped people in the country. Their version of freedom is being able to afford to retire by 55, after 25 years of work they couldn't escape from. The lads with no salary and no fixed costs have more genuine freedom at 27. What looks like the prize from the outside is actually the bait. The salary holds you in place better than any contract could.

@autovate @aswren @DanicaPriest In hindsight, I'd have left the UK immediately after uni. I can't complain, life has worked out well: I have a remote business and have lived in a bunch of countries. But the UK is a total waste of time for lifestyle optimisation.

@NapierHolland @aswren @DanicaPriest Yep. I left the UK after uni, a friend stayed back and tried to live there for a while before giving up and leaving. He's still paying for that mistake.

@aswren @DanicaPriest I worked hard in tech to buy a £330k apartment in Cambridge. My neighbours included drug dealers given identical apartments, for free. They trashed the place. I solid it to a Chinese investor and left the UK. I will no longer pay UK income tax. That’s the UK in a nutshell.

UK salary discourse is a guy on £40k a year calling someone on £60k a year the rich elite

@Andercot I've been into VR since early 00's and I didn't expect Vive / Oculus / Index / Vision to succeed. First three too expensive and complex for normies to use, lacking killer content. Vision same issues but even worse. I know a few normies getting Meta headsets though lately.

The absolute non-takeoff of VR and AR is probably one of the big upsets in consumer electronics history Pretty much everyone thought this would be huge and it sort of just isn't

New idea. Next time we publish a report on a politician, I’ll keep the politician’s name blanked out for a week, and let everyone take positions before they find out who it is.

Linux has a file that contains an infinite number of zeros. It's called /dev/zero. You can read a terabyte from it, a petabyte, more bytes than any disk could store, and it never runs out. Programs have used it for decades to generate zero-filled data.

In the US car insurance companies demand you install spyware on your phone to give you a driver score to messure if you are a safe driver. They then lower your score if you use your phone ... whilst being a passanger on a bus.

Any idea how someone could theoretically start a company while having to give 0 fucks about EU and British regulations? E.g. a Delaware LLC with ownership in Switzerland or shit like that? I want to be like my role models the AliExpress seller that work at a company's called Xinxeudbeujfbrxer Factory > 0 tax paid > Device breaks every FCC guideline in existence > Metal casing is sometimes energized and shocks the user > 5 dogs killed > 0 consequences How to start a company like that while theoretically sitting in Europe
