Marathon ranked is cool. BUT IF YOU DONT HAVE a signal jammer, thermal optic sniper, smoke grenades, maybe 1 assassin, a signal jammer, maybe run 1 triage, have utility to throw for fights, maybe run the claymore drone tech with Thief, a signal jammer, thermal optic sniper, remind your teammates we cant ape like we do in pubs, a signal jammer, thermal optic sniper you might struggle a bit. Other than that ranked is peak and definitely not as cruel as Cryo Archive.

@KnightUvTime It could be! I’m kind of hoping C.A.R.R.I. is its own thing but even if that was just the catchup mechanic for Cryo late season, sure! Interested to see if they have something in mind late season for the rest of things, too. Honestly I just love the idea of them experimenting.

@avcables There’s still the unexplained C.A.R.R.I. Event, which seems exactly like what you’re referencing. You know, the event that clearly starts with Cryo Archive in its initialism.

On top of this? One of the catchup mechanics is probably making Cryo available daily. Ranked too, why not. Seasons are a few months but it’s a good way to let everyone spa their accumulated vaults back into the ether, too. Will be fun to see how they handle it as time goes.

If you’re asking yourself if you’re going to even be able to experience Compiler, there’s a non-zero chance that Bungie has catch-up mechanics planned late season (lots of extraction shooters do this). Could be straight up buying keys to the vault.

There’s nothing in multiplayer gaming right now quite like Cryo Archive in Marathon.

I’m really interested what was meant by Marathon’s Cryo Archive being “its own thing” when it comes to teams/Runners inside the map. @Ziegler_Dev wouldn’t clarify how many teams would be on the map, but what does it really mean?! One more sleep! And 10 hour workday!

As someone who works 60+ hours Monday through Friday I have 0 played during any weekday ever to build up my vault, period, and I’m looking forward to skinning every single one of your shells in Marathon and the Archive tomorrow regardless. Make time for your God.

FYI: Here's the current schedule for Cryo/Ranked. Cryo: Unlocks at 10 AM PT on Friday (first opens on Friday 3/20) Closes at 10 AM PT on Monday (first closes on Monday 3/23) Ranked: Unlocks at 10 AM PT on Saturday (first opens on Saturday 3/21) Closes at 10 AM PT on Tuesday (first closes on Tuesday 3/24) Once again, as we see and learn more we're open to iterating on the schedule in future updates. Cryo and Ranked are coming and we're excited to see players battle it out over Tau Ceti and traverse into the big scary moon-like ship in the sky. We've put out a few posts about Cryo, poured through the variety of comments and feedback we've seen so far, and wanted to take some time to explain some of the initial decisions we've made around Cryo and Ranked with regards to weekend scheduling. So without further ado, here's what we have been thinking: We are of course always iterating and are open to looking at other options in the future, but the Ranked/Cryo Archive weekend decision is really built around three points: - Preparing: We acknowledge that players will lose a lot of gear on Cryo and Ranked because it is intended to challenge you to your limits. As a result of that, it's important that Cryo and Ranked feel like an event you can schedule towards, grind gear up to do, etc. The loop of spend time grinding gear to spend it in Cryo or Ranked is reflected in this choice as a weekly cycle. - Economy Talk: We have some great rewards on Cryo that kind of break the bank when it comes to economy and power gain. If we were to look at having it open all the time, we'd probably have to adjust how frequently you can earn these rewards so that we don't flood the game with amazing loot all of a sudden. - Logistics Time: Cryo and Ranked both have entry requirements (gear ante) that are built around the idea of you matching with other players on an equal investment level. They also both have a high level requirement to ensure you've experienced enough of the game to understand the challenges inherent to the game. This inherently makes the amount of people in that queue at any time unpredictable. Both of these experiences also need a consistent flow of players in the queue to make sure matches are full to retain the challenge. To reduce the match times and allow players to find matches quicker, making it a scheduled event means more players will show up during that window and feed the queue pool better. We also acknowledge that there are likely some who cannot participate on the weekend or are excited about the experience and want to no-life it for weeks, and we appreciate that. We'll be looking into what we can do to retain these considerations and potentially accommodate this in the future. Things we may iterate on in the future: - Staggering Ranked and Cryo queues more so they overlap less - Looking at changing the days we do either Cryo or Ranked - Changing the ante values of Cryo or Ranked - Looking at any other conditions (solo experience, crew fill experience, etc.) and iterating on it! Marathon is an evolving game and part of evolving is seeing how this initial launch plays out and adjusting as we go =). This looks incredible. I'm good with Cryo being on the weekends since it seems it's just load-in. Don't want to destroy gear economy. If it was locked behind some ultra-rare keys for entry, broader access would make more sense. Hopefully ranked is daily once it's out of beta.

Love that we’re already at this stage of mindless traipsing into making the game into what it’s not, abandoning vision because players think they know what’s better of healthy for the game because it’s more fun for them over just playing the fucking game. P. gross language, tsk.

All I see all over my feed is my fellow Destiny creators enjoying the shit out of Marathon. I have officially downloaded Marathon. I have this sinking feeling in my gut that I’m about to become obsessed with this game…
