One nation the biggest party for Renters now. It’s almost like that a bunch of politicians with investment property’s don’t understand what it’s like for your rent to go up twice as fast as your wages for 5 years straight

Rents are rising at an annualised rate of 4%. The housing crisis keeps getting worse. Because there aren't enough homes.

1 year ago today the Liberals confirmed they‘d vote against Labor’s tax cuts for every taxpayer. Australians would be $50 a week worse off if Angus Taylor had his way on repealing Labor's tax cuts and cost of living relief. Labor is delivering a tax cut this year and another next year, as well cheaper medicines and more bulk billing to help with the cost of living.

@NatedawgO7 @TimReardon2 Because landlords are price takers, not price makers mate. Hence my point: gov will reduce rental supply (and housing supply) with the proposed changes and rents will be raised at that time, as able. Begs the question: is that really what you and Oz want?

@NatedawgO7 @TimReardon2 We are happy Nath. Wish they’d hurry up and implement it so I can raise the rents some more. Funny thing is, Claude tells me the gov will actually be at a net loss due to the huge reduction in new builds haha a total shitshow of a proposal 😂

If this was true (it’s not) then investors should be happy as a shortage of houses pushes up prices and will increase their capital gain. It’s funny how investors can’t decide if they want prices to go up and that’s a good thing for themselves but as soon as potential tax changes are announced they say it will push up prices and lower supply and that’s a bad thing? Which one is it?

Our new laws will double the penalties for false or misleading conduct and cartel behaviour to a maximum of $100 million per offence.

@BenPhillips_ANU I would make the same argument for Super in general. Would be much better to have the 12% whilst trying to raise a family with mortgage, school fees Etc etc as Cameron Murray argues.

Super on govt paid parental leave. A nice principle but you’d think most women would need that extra 12% with a new baby now rather than in 30 years when financial stress rates are near 0.

@PhillipCoorey I’m old enough to remember Jim and Katie banging on constantly about going ‘line by line’ through the spending/waste and creating copious amounts of saving when they came into office. These were their words. Their actions were to spend, spend, and spend some more.

If you had of said to me 3 weeks ago that Labor could lose the next election I would have laughed. But honestly, if we end up in a protracted fuel crisis and the economy gets hammered as a result, while Japan and South Korea happily sip tea, it's infinitely more possible.
