Back in the day, the best burger in LA was at Eat’n High, a hippy place in Silverlake. Place still there but now Asian food. I had the “all of the above” burger. Cheese, bacon, avocado, onions, mushrooms.
Larry YACHT@DrLarryYACHT

@GustavoArellano It is. It is not the best burger in california despite what Anthony Bourdain said. Hell the Apple Pan and as chili guy tom's is better

I haven't ever eaten at Del Taco, but after extensive research it seems that the Del Taco street taco is made with a soft tortilla. Other tacos are made with either flatbread or a taco shell.* *no endorsement nor non-endorsement should be inferred.
The Spoiler Spot@mikawilson777

@USCnDodgerBlue @GustavoArellano @LucasDonnelly10 Multiple people have posted pictures of the menu. There is something called the Barstow taco, and there is a separate item called a street taco. Any Californian with common sense knows the difference, even if Hilton doesn’t.🙄

When I was an immigration lawyer, I looked at this one way: what was best for my client, what were chance of success, how much should I charge. Now, as a retired old guy, I see it differently. How are we going to find cures to diseases if we don't add foreign talent to our own.

Waiting for a consular appointment was already a problem for H-1B holders, but several policy decisions have made this issue much worse: 1.) The Trump Admin reversed a policy allowing them to renew their visas at any U.S. Embassy. Previously, visa holders could find a consular office with the shortest waiting periods and book an appointment there. Now, an Indian applicant needs to renew their visa in India--which has ridiculous waiting times. 2.) The Trump Admin removed a pilot program that allowed H-1Bs to renew their visas stateside--allowing them to wait out the bureaucratic process in the US so they could continue to work and be with their children as their ability to re-enter the U.S. is pending approval. 3.) The Trump Admin required that children and seniors be physically present at a consulate and get interviewed for visa renewal. The previously policy waived interview requirements for children under 14 and seniors over 79. The lines for getting your visa renewed extend far outside of the physical building. Imagine waiting hours line in India during over 100 degree weather--and you have to bring your baby with you. Imagine having to do this as a senior citizen. The Trump Admin needs to reverse these policies ASAP.

In prior years, it was not uncommon for asylees to travel home without their asylum status being challenged. The issue sometimes came up came up during naturalization interviews. These are different times.

That’s good advice because DHS doesn’t follow the law. That said, people think asylum means the person will be arrested or killed if they go home. Not so. I.E., it may be that they cannot openly practice their religion. A short visit doesn’t undermine that claim.
Sam Peak 🇺🇸💡@SpeakSamuel

@awernick Most people I know with a pending asylum claim are advised not to return to their country.

Legal note: Being able to visit is not the test for for asylum. The test is whether they can live there free from persecution. Even Americans visit countries where they could not practice their religion, politics, or assert their gender identity, but can go for a short trip.
Sam Peak 🇺🇸💡@SpeakSamuel

@RyanGirdusky If they have a pending asylum claim, it won’t be valid anymore if they leave. So your concern is automatically resolved.

A diner is offended by a smell from a neighboring diner. "Cleanliness is next to godliness, John Wesley" he says. The other diner ignores him. The diner says it louder. Still no response. He shouts it a third time. The other diner responds, "f**k you," Tennessee Williams.

Can we at least be generous with our OPT and H-1B policies until we find a cure for cancer and other diseases? A plea from an old guy.
Greg Siskind@gsiskind

@SenEricSchmitt So basically, less than would fit into the Liberty Bowl when half the stadium is under construction.

@mehdirhasan Legal note: as the article notes, denaturalization is difficult for the government. My guess is that most of these folk committed crimes and lied about it on their naturalization applications. A few may have gotten their green through a phony marriage. Most people need not worry

Farm boy on first day at Harvard asks an upper classman “can u tell me where the registrar’s office is at?” “Here at Harvard, we don’t end our sentences with prepositions.” “Ok. Can u tell me where the registrars office is at, asshole.”
George Conway ⚖️🇺🇸@gtconway3d

@SundaeDivine I feel the same way. I never tell people I went to Harvard unless someone mentions Harvard first in which case I mention that I went to Harvard and go on to discuss how I never mention it unless someone brings up the subject.

Legal note: unlawful presence here is not a crime. Unlawful entry may be, but for a person to have a criminal history for unlawfu entry, the person would banned to have been charged and convicted.
W. Blake Gray@wblakegray

@NYTimesPR @mattvanswol @hknightsf @nytimes @Haleaziz I'm astonished that NYT responded to this post. That said, when you take away the profanity, I see that the objection is to "no criminal history." Could be mincing words, but is a deportation order since 2019 a criminal history?

Legal note: Foreign entrants to U.S. are already VERY carefully screened by CBP. If ICE detains anyone, its people flying OUT of the airport or in the waiting areas. Comment note: Sort of depressing that we have a president who is a nincompoop.
Aaron Rupar@atrupar

Q: Will we see ICE arresting illegal migrants at airports? TRUMP: Yeah. That's why the Democrats are going crazy. ICE loves it because they're able to now arrest illegals as they come into the country. It's very fertile territory.
