Reports circulating on social media about my imminent return to South Sudan are totally unfounded. I have no plans whatsoever at this point in time to go back to the country. Due to the absence of political space, that would neither be feasible nor safe for my personal well being

Today, I successfully defended my Ph.D. in Informatics Engineering (Sustainability Research) at The University of Electro-Communications, Tokyo - Japan. But it came at a cost. Three years ago when I turned 29, I thought it wouldn’t be so challenging. Boy, I was wrong. In three years, I’ve been stressed to the bones; lost close to 10 kilograms in the final 7 months; and summing to really bad computing practices from my undergrad, I now struggle to sleep more than ever - the Insomnia is quite chronic. But hey, this journey is never a walk in the park! I’ve learnt a lot, but with an ever evolving field in today’s society, “the more one knows, the less one actually knows”. The past three years have reinforced the adage that, everyday brings forth an opportunity to learn something, unlearn something, or do something in an optimal manner than is/has been done. While I eagerly anticipate applying my knowledge, the conduit to my mind is thirstier for ideas and hungrier to learn than ever before 👊🏾✊🏾. Congratulations to myself! On to the next item in the menu! I look forward to returning to the University of Juba!!

Don’t take my word for it about the need for a blank-slate review of #USA🇺🇲 policy towards #SouthSudan🇸🇸 & unelected @PresSalva regime. See @SenateForeign Chair’s unambiguous call for “a political reset,” including both policy & aid, because “the current approach has failed.” 👇
Senate Foreign Relations Committee Chairman@SenateForeign

20 years after its peace agreement, #SouthSudan needs a political reset, as does our approach to U.S. policy & assistance to the country. The current approach has failed. It's time to change course.

1/2 This old Mama heroine delivered our Christmas message on behalf of J1. She spoke to the hearts of all of us, indeed they were better off during Omar Bashir reign in terms of services compared to the current regime. What went wrong with the liberation? #SSOT

The issue of Pres Kiir & Dr. Riek Machar exit from power was one of the key resolution of the National Dialogue. We’re only re-enforcing what the people said in the National Dialogue and the need to operationalize it. Every resolution of the ND MUST be implemented! #SSOT #SSOX

Police on Wednesday morning fired into the air to disperse a group of protesting wounded soldiers who gathered outside the Finance Ministry premises in Juba to demand for their dues. #SSOX #SouthSudan eyeradio.org/police-fire-li…

@JohnAkec I agree with your assessment. Reason why I don’t support elections now. We must do the needful before elections.

QUESTIONS ABOUT ELECTIONS Am I opposed to elections? Absolutely not. Am I afraid of elections? Absolutely yes. Why? current set up of unified forces, especially its fractured nature, lack of equipment inadequate training make them a liability than assets during coming elections.

@JohnAkec This is it. Our leaders are lying about peace and unity. Without a national army that’s apolitical, it’s not safe to hold elections.

@WaniMichael57 What? What is going on Dr. Akec? Is your account hacked? You have been pushing for elections even without the constitution. What a U turn.

Excited to see that Prof is making a U-turn from his previous strong position on election that a “bad” or “worst” is better than nothing. I definitely agree with him and I remember we had a long argument and counter- arguments with him here on the same issue. #SSOT

ELECTIONS NONSENSE? An ethnically composed, politically aligned, poorly trained, under-resourced army cannot be relied upon to be professional nor politically neutral during the conduct of elections as pandits want us believe. This country is not ripe for a democratic transition.

@WaniMichael57 We are definitely a psychologically poor country and more so, a leadership deprived people. Elections are not a priority, the priority is the unity of the people, an end to violence, and an end to political uncertainty, and an end to misalignment of resources and priorities.

The donors funding key sectors like health and education are increasingly withdrawing their funding and expect total collapse of some of these sectors because they’re donor’s driven. The NGO sector that used to employ thousands of young people is diminishing at the highest rate. The economy is just on its knees because we can’t deal with the key economic fundamentals. Our people want their issues addressed urgently but unfortunately the government think election is the top priority than addressing these issues. South Sudan is not a POOR Country but we’re faced with the serious challenge of TOTAL MISMANAGEMENT of our affairs and resources. Our Country earns millions of dollars daily from the oil and non-oil revenues but the cartels are the only people enjoying our natural resources. Gurush wen! #SSOT

@RadioTamazuj Indeed Ambassador Adler, the shared human values start with peace and respect for people and their rights. The unfortunate truth is that President Kiir’s system cannot give birth to these values. It has genetically mutated and it has become a dictatorial species.
