Mum died on Monday. Today she received a £50 civil penalty for not letting DWP know soon enough she was in hospital & had been overpaid £73.90 in allowances. The traumatic experience of hospitalisation & loss of mental capacity was deemed 'not a reasonable excuse'. F this world.

Went to get a Novavax booster yesterday at a CVS pharmacy. The person at the counter was like: ‘you’re going to have to pay for this so you probably don’t want it’. ‘I want it’. ‘It probably won’t help.’ ‘I want it.’ ‘It’s not bleeding do you want a band aid?’. ‘Yes please’

@stone3Clare @CarnivoraCC Or where I am, fall is getting closer! Fortunately just about the only time cafes outside are out of the question in Melbourne is those rare occasions when it hits 44°C … or when the bushfire smoke gets really bad.

Is our community getting smaller? 🥺 Where are you? 🥹 It always hurts when people stop masking, esp. when they have some influence/reach.

This has generated a lot of discussion, most positive, some negative, from both "sides". One person who attacked me even quoted a paper that I am an author on, to "refute" me😜. Patients should be safe from acquiring infections from staff and visitors in hospital & masking helps. Any mask is better than no mask as many studies incl our own below show. I am here visiting #JIHS and very impressed. theconversation.com/which-mask-wor…

Hospitals in Japan: cannot enter without a mask. Security at front door stops unmasked ppl to protect patients, staff and visitors from #airborne pathogens.

Waiting at a train station today, I saw an elderly woman on the opposite platform wearing a blue surgical mask. Every time I see someone in a blue surgical mask it drives home so profoundly to me how public health in this country is failing people. Every single time.

@SarahMcGinger Funny—back in 2020 I used to wear an Elipse to the grocery store, & a guy said something similar to me, congratulating me. He was sincere. Then he launched into a conspiratorial rant about how the physicians were supposedly killing people with remdesevir & collecting bounties.

I’m waiting for a medical appointment and the guy beside me looks up at my P100 respirator and says, “Now that’s a mask! If we had to wear those ones I would’ve worn something cool like that. That actually looks like it’s doing something.” Yes. That is correct.

@brianlilley LOL 'activists' = physicists, aerosol scientists, mechanical engineers, biomedical engineers, electrical engineers, industrial hygienists, etc. You seriously need to cut down on your Fruit Loops if you think Canadian Standards Asdociation is activist.

Do you want to wear an N95 mask every time you go to a doctor's appointment or the hospital? The CSA wants this to be mandatory and they are backed by big activist groups. Story here with comments from some provincial governments. torontosun.com/opinion/column…

Is today the day I get myself booted from the mommy group? Only time will tell. My response to ‘nobody wants to hear about Covid anymore. It’s 2026. It’s just another virus’👇 * Feel free to use this to also potentially get booted from your local echo chamber.

@confusionm8trix Well, it’s not AIDS, because that’s the name of a particular disease entity, rather than just a description. But can COVID do lasting damage to the immune system? That much is established. It’s even in the Merck Manual of Diagnosis and Therapy, a standard medical handbook.

so is there anyone who’s not a crank or a scold that can tell me whether covid is giving us all some kind of acquired immunodeficiency syndrome? because it does sort of seem like that’s happening to some degree but it feels like the only people discussing it are cranks and scolds

It's hard to take medical staff seriously if delivering a message in a surgical mask (providing no significant protection), saying that they're struggling. Until they start using proper airborne mitigations and taking disease transmission seriously, this situation won't improve.

Nottingham hospitals have turned off & hidden replies after people asked them why they weren’t wearing FFP2/3 masks that actually work against airborne disease. This is where we are folks. Protect yourself, you’re on your own.
