offering an ad-free tier to your social app is just an admission that ads create a worse experience for your users. take for example X's "Upgrade to Premium+" card that's glued to the top of my timeline. spotify and youtube are some other examples. i would define an immersive ad experience as one where even if users could pay to opt out of ads, few would feel inclined to do so.
