Joshua was ex army, chud has had that many threats against his life he was on edge, he didn’t know if Joshua was carrying, he didn’t know if Joshua would take his gun. Chuds not a fighter he’s probably never been in a fight or a real one so he probably imminently feared for his life when Joshua ran up on him? He didn’t know if it was one of the guys wanting to kill him. We also see Joshua has talked about fighting Chud in the past and even had stuff about terminating him on his facebook page or tho not directly posted by Joshua but one of his friends. Joshua was coming at him and Chud reached for his gun, he drew it after he had been hit. All he has to do it prove he feared for his life and he probably genuinely did.
