I’ve recently been researching different blockchains and decided to write an “Explain like I’m 5” post describing why Solana’s scheduler outperforms Aptos. @babaonchain/why-aptos-wont-scale-like-solana-6a63ceabfd50" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">medium.com/@babaonchain/w…

@mert I think we do. We just don’t consider them philosophers currently.

why is it that you don't see more philosophers in the mainstream today? is it because the world has moved on from being more thought-oriented to being more pragmatism-oriented? or is it because philosophers are generally recognized after their time has passed?

@sooltanbtc @digitalartchick @AdamMetaverse @cryptopunks @yugalabs What’s especially weird is that the 0.8 transfer happened a day prior to the big theft. Anyone watching the wallet would have noticed the 0.8 transfer and immediately moved the NFT out of the wallet. Most hackers know this, and wouldn’t have waited to take the NFT.

Help Needed – My 420 ETH #CryptoPunk 3609 Was Stolen Dear Community, Today, I discovered something shocking and deeply troubling. My CryptoPunk 3609, a piece I’ve held and cherished, was stolen from my wallet four months ago—and I didn’t even realize it until now. I found out when I visited the @cryptopunks website and saw that it was listed for sale. At first, I thought it had to be some mistake because I have never put it up for sale. Confused and concerned, I immediately went to my friend’s office, where I had asked them to securely store my ledger wallet. This is an extremely secure office that deals with funds and implements the highest security standards. Let me explain the security measures: The ledger wallet holding the Punk was stored in a locked safe with a secure code. The safe was inside a room that also required a separate code for entry. The office itself is guarded around the clock. Despite these extreme precautions, when my friend opened the safe, took out the ledger wallet, and connected it, the Punk was gone. It was transferred out of the wallet four months ago without any access to the physical ledger or the secured environment where it was kept. The circumstances strongly suggest this could have been related to a compromise of the seed phrase, but we cannot say for certain at this point. I am reaching out to the community and @yugalabs to: 1. Flag CryptoPunk 3609 as stolen to prevent it from being bought or traded. 2. CryptoPunks collectors: Please do not buy this Punk, treat it as stolen property. 3. @zachxbt can you please help? This is a devastating situation, and I’m doing everything in my power to recover it. I hope the incredible CryptoPunk and Web3 community can come together to support me in this effort. The value of an NFT comes from the community consensus, as long as it's stolen, 3609 should be worthless. If you have any advice or information that could help, please contact me directly. Thank you for standing with me against this theft. Sincerely, Little Fish

@mert If a gov digital asset reserve is created - I believe it should be representative of the whole industry from BTC down to my token on the market cap rankings. My token should be the cutoff though. Beneath that is the poverty line.

Both things are true IMO Stability is greatly improved, and it costs iteration speed. Not saying it’s not worth it, but it will be interesting to regroup on this in a year. Firedancer will be limited by the speed of the legacy client, “like a Farrari in a traffic jam”.
toly 🇺🇸@toly

@gadikian <img=whip.jpg> Multiple teams should be able to move faster if they are truly independent. Since the probability of both shipping the same bug is near zero, so the testing timeline can be shorter.

@alessandrod @MikazukVII @fikunmi_ap Ah. Do you think the research done for firedancer is the reason that agave will be faster (taking the lessons learned there), or are these optimizations just a natural progression of running agave for several years?

I recommend no more thinking like this: agave will be as fast and faster than firedancer. The reason agave is slow is that it's an implementation of ideas that hadn't been tried before. The hard part was trying things out and iterating on the ideas. The core ideas have now been proven to work. Making the implementation faster is _easy_.

@alessandrod @MikazukVII @fikunmi_ap I’ve been thinking about how the stuff @fikunmi_ap is building at Eclipse can actually be faster than Solana itself, if they’re willing to forego the multi-client benefits and use firedancer for all clients.

@alessandrod @MikazukVII @fikunmi_ap Is this wrong? I’m more level headed than your average x user so happy to admit it if so. My impression of firedancer is that it’s fast, but the chain can only be as fast as the slowest client.

How to increase your exposure on this app: 1. Dunk on Solana when it’s down (now is a great time) 2. That’s it! In 6 months, you will get a retweet from @mert

coinfession: I hold 0 SOL half ported at ~$25, built a model that calculated fair value at ~$140, exited at $185 a few months ago I could miss out on huge gains this cycle, but this is OKAY my skill is having high conviction when others don't, not knowing how crazy a banana zone will get when people stop believing in crypto again, I'll be in *those* trenches, buying up coins on the cheap until then, I'm perfectly comfortable being sidelined

@fikunmi_ap Saturated vs. cheap saturation point is mostly semantics in this case. You can swap out those words and my above point still stands.

@baba_is_typing Blockchains are constrained capacity environments; the chain will almost always be saturated, we just want the saturation point to still be extremely cheap.

Unfortunate? It feels to me like rising median tx fees on Solana would indicate that the chain is under contention (as a whole, not just specific accounts), and isn’t scaling well, which wouldn’t bode well for being the global computer.
toly 🇺🇸@toly

Unfortunately it’s not true. Assuming similar distribution, if the median tx fee on solana was $0.2, solana’s rev run rate would be > $60b a year. Even if the average was $0.2 consistently the run rate would be ~$10b. Sadly this is just fud :(

@fikunmi_ap Saturating a single state is fine, but global state saturation is really bad IMO. It means the activity has to go someplace else (like an L2) to get low fees.

Babacus ✍️@baba_is_typing·
@fikunmi_ap Correct. But the implication of rising median fees is that the chain is saturated. For the Solana vision of the world’s computer to succeed, it must be able to handle the world’s activity WITHOUT saturating the chain.

@mert Low fees are a sign that the capacity is not saturated. If Base is single threaded and saturated at 6.5 billion, Solana should be saturated at 4x that amount, but it’s not. Curious how to explain that gap

@mert True, but in the short term I believe Solana is only 4 treads so I’m trying to account for the seemingly 15x better scalability here

a perfect demonstration of solana's engineering in the past day, for fees: Solana avg: 4 cents Base avg: 10 cents Solana median: 0.2 cents Base median: 2 cents the catch? Base did 6.5M txns, while Solana did 92M txns so — Solana has a 2.5x lower avg cost and a 10x lower median cost, while handling over 10x the scale — and that's with the security of 1500 machines, instead of 1 central one

@fikunmi_ap @mert Here’s the thing though. Solana is doing 15x more transactions than Base. It should only be 4x more scalable due to parallelism. If the other 11x isn’t because of the MPT, then what is it?

@fikunmi_ap @mert I’m super bullish on few markets long term, but IIRC Solana currently has only 4 threads (I haven’t checked in a while). My hand-wavy thought is that this makes the chain currently 4x more parallel than EVM (with opportunities to increase that further)
