@USSoccerColl It would. And teams might get more favorable deals. But the leagues cut might get smaller, so it won’t happen

I wish MLS would ditch the league wide kit deal with Adidas and let each team negotiate with an outfitter. I think it would lead to more unique kits across the league.

@USKeeper More than likely, all of the soccer people in the room decided on Marsch & were good. Then a non-soccer person, or just someone with too much power, was one of the final stamps of approval needed. & they wanted Berhalter back. So, that was that. Someone disengaged made the call

“Maybe this is an old wound for Landon Donovan, who was cut from USMNT and replaced by a dual citizen. Maybe Alexi [Lalas] is ticked off because the guy in ‘98, where he didn't get to play, fell into that category as well.” Eric Wynalda has his say on the Noahkai Banks debate 🗣️ “Noahkai Banks is getting attention right now, not just because of the way he's playing, because it's kind of opened up this issue with certain people— namely Alexi Lalas and Landon Donovan,” Wynalda began. “They basically have said they don't want anybody to represent our country that they know and love if they don't want to be here.” “I'm taking a different approach. I get where people are coming from. I get where this narrative is also coming from, from a network standpoint, so I understand that, maybe a little bit more than most, that that's kind of what it's like to work in that building.” “But at the same time, this doesn't have anything to do with that. I mean, you can't, actually, you know, start your sentence by saying, ‘Let me preface everything I'm about to say that I am not a xenophobe.’ And then go on a xenophobic rant. It doesn't work that way.” “I'm not saying that that everybody that's taken this approach is just flat out ignorant, but damn it, there's some ignorance flying around.” “We've had former national team players say that they don't think that people that were born in Germany deserve to play for the United States simply because of where they were born, and that they're not American.” “Might want to rethink that those are Americans who are essentially protecting us, and they're a part of our armed forces, and they're very much American that just happened to be living and populating the world with children from a different place, that doesn't make you Un-American.” “Actually, those are the very people that are protecting and fighting for your rights as an American and your safety. So sometimes ignorance takes on different forms.” “Maybe this is an old wound for Landon Donovan, who was cut from the national team and replaced by a dual citizen. So maybe that's why he's ticked off about that.” “Maybe Alexi is ticked off because the guy that that was on the World Cup team in ‘98, where he didn't get to play, fell into that category as well.” “See, I'm really a different mind. I feel like the U.S. national team should be a compilation of the best soccer players that we could possibly assemble,” “Now, you know, to go that route and to be all patriotic and whatnot. Man, I just think a lot of people have forgotten how this country was formed, where we all are from, and how we should have somewhat of a connection to that very process.” “It’s unfortunate that a young player at the age of 19 has to sit back and listen to people say, ‘Well, I don't want him to be on our team, no matter what.’ Man, I wish those people would shut up, because I want him on our team because he's good and he can help us.” “If the rules say you can play, welcome to the team kid. I hope he does play for the U.S. national team. I hope he scores a lot of goals, and I don't even care if that pisses people off, I want to win. That's it.” [via Unleashed with Eric Wynalda on GOLZ TV]

Wow. Regardless of how good of a coach Marsch might be, this is a shitty way for things to have played out It’s unfortunately on-brand for @ussoccer My guess is that nearly all the soccer people were in agreement on Marsch. Then one person with too much power changed his mind
Tactical Manager@ManagerTactical

So Jesse Marsch rejected Leicester back in 2023 to take over the USMNT 🇺🇸, then the fed decided to bring back Gregg Berhalter. Regardless of what your thoughts are on Jesse Marsch there was absolutely no reasonable reason to bring Berhalter back over Marsch.

Me sounding the alarm on Berhalter and Roldan is what I did in 23’ with Ferreira and I was ultimately proven right. We were told Ferreira was incredible and this is what we got. Being decent in MLS is one thing, playing against actual European competition is entirely different
Gregg Beerholder 🍺@MLShater

Ladies and gentleman, I present to you THE all touches comp from Jesus Ferreira’s cameo in Qatar! Truly a moment worthy of the “I’m not him” title! 🇺🇸

@Tobi_FCBayern The problem is that Upamacano & Davies have signed for bigger salaries, and Laimer is also looking to get more. Olise should be a top earner, and Karl will big a big bump with his next extension. It’s a constant game with retaining top talent and giving them increases

[@SPORTBILD]

@DRNKLT Pavlovic, without a doubt, should be starting for Germany. Aside from Kimmich, he is the top German central midfielder

@soccer_usa_ @kerrc17 I’m concerned about his speed and physicality. I wish he’d taken the next step in his career and gone abroad to we had a better idea of how his game could or would improve But I’m not convinced he can’t play the international game He’s also not in my 26

We know Nagelsmann has reached out to Banks (his words). Combine that with the fact he's a young CB starting for a mid-table team and has lived nearly 12 years (and developed) in Germany... I'm certain he's torn. He's got friends at the USYNT level, he talked about how the sept window he was welcomed with open arms by everyone including the vets... But he has spent more than half his life in Germany and there he's created a life in soccer. It shouldn't surprise anyone that he likely favors Germany if both national teams come to the table. We don't have to like the decision, losing a promising talent is never easy, but ultimately it's his decision to make.

There’s a growing obsession with pouring hundreds of millions into state-of-the-art sports facilities, as if elite players are manufactured by architecture and price tags. Football investors, in particular, love to unveil these massive projects with the same promise: this investment will pay for itself by producing top-tier talent. It sounds compelling, but it fundamentally misunderstands how player development actually works. Elite players aren’t the product of pristine buildings or exclusive complexes. They emerge from repetition, freedom, and access, thousands of unstructured hours with the ball, often in small, tight spaces, long before they ever set foot in a high-performance center. By the time a player reaches one of these facilities, most of the real development has already happened. If investors truly understood this, their strategy would look very different. Instead of concentrating resources into a single, expensive hub, they would decentralize access. They’d build dozens, hundreds, of small, free, local pitches embedded in communities. Places where kids can show up anytime, play without barriers, and fall in love with the game on their own terms. Because the real lever isn’t luxury, it’s volume, accessibility, and environment. The next generation of elite players won’t come from marble-floored academies. They’ll come from the streets, the cages, and the small-sided pitches where the game is played constantly, creatively, and without permission.

As of today, this is my World Cup depth chart I stand by playing a 4-4-2 with a diamond. I have my starter and backup at each position. My 26-man roster is listed in the top boxes at each spot, with a 5-deep depth chart. My 30-man short-list and number assignments are here too

@AlexiLalas Most players haven’t contributed to the #USMNT in the way Gio has either I don’t want to give Reyna a pass on what has become an incredibly concerning club career (granted, he is young), but his NT career, when given opportunities, speaks for itself I’d say the same for Musah

It's a testament to Gio Reyna's talent that there is still belief in him. Most players, having struggled so consistently to even get on the field, would not have been given these continual opportunities.

Yunus Musah is better at soccer than seb Berhalter and Cristian roldan. There’s simply no way anyone with a brain can justify otherwise.
