Just happy to observe the natural world, but its a bonus when a free creature comes close. Now on bluesky.

The badgers at this sett have moved north by 100m, it took some thinking and a second visit to catch up with them. #badgermonday

Just one badger stopping for a peanut before trotting off into the darkness. #badgermonday

Great to see the badgers out, they are cautious this time of year and the wet weather hasn't been any help. #badgermonday

@ingham_mal That’s what I was hoping. Thank you. Yes, it’s very early but I couldn’t see any discernible movement from the cub. I slowed the footage right down. Is it normal for them to be very motionless in mums mouth?

@ingham_mal Hi Mal, I seem to have captured some footage of a female potentially moving a cub, or male predation of a cub?? The cub appears quite big for time of year, 4th Feb. Do you think it’s a live cub being moved to another chamber or something else going on?

Sett surveying on a #badgermonday and a foraging dig so recent it was still dry.

Taking advantage of a few peanuts then diving back down into the sett at full speed. Have the cubs been born early? #badgermonday

Most of the time the badgers are accepting of my quiet presence but I remain sensitive to behaviour and occasionally I have to move back and watch from back row, giving them their space. Here is one taking a quick look and going back underground. #badgermonday

A late post for #badgermonday at the end of an afternoon walk looking for signs of wildlife. A hollow under a hedgerow tree complete with some dry grass bedding. A cosy stopping point away from the sett.

Below freezing day and night so a handful of peanuts was provided for each badger (and some for the wood mice) and was readily accepted all round. #badgermonday

Sunset over badger's house. Winter checks on setts known to have been blocked by fox hunters in the past are simple but important actions in dealing with wildlife crime. #badgermonday

@pekingfrog A quiet moment with the badgers at the edge of the field and away from civilisation.

Not been on X so much, mainly because of the constant reminders of how the Govt is selling nature down the toilet, which then ruins me for the day! I want to see uplifting nature pics, not moronic, incompetent, greedy, immensely stupid, gaslighting MPs. I’m quoting the fox 🦊💬😆

With the moon elsewhere the low clouds helped out, reflecting the light from the town way out into the fields. #badgermonday

Moonlight but also deep shadows, almost beyond my camera this time. Badger watching in winter is not without its challenges. #badgermonday
